Looks good but too bad they didn't put cut-outs in the rear for exhaust tips on those cars. That would make it look a lot better.

Thanks everyone, im very happy with these. those old ones have bothered me since the day I bought the car.

not sure i know what you mean. if you mean cut outs as in open headers, that wouldn't be by the tips, it would be under the car somewhere. if you are referring to what the Z06 has, the guy i got these from also had Z06 exahaust, but the tips were the same, and i didnt want those valves.

10-12-2007, 08:52 PM
I know what exhaust cut-outs are.. I guess I just didn't word it well, I meant cutouts as in the rear fascia having spots for the tips to poke out. Like on GA's, GP's... many other cars Sorry for the bad explanation.

10-13-2007, 11:55 AM
oh...well i could have gotten the CME (center mount exhaust) but thats an SS option and im trying to build this car without using any SS parts.
its funny, this car doesnt have exahust openings, but the trans am, firebird, and camaro SS (with CME) all do.

Its the 96-97 style, but i ordered it directly from SLP. heres how itll look on my car (this is NOT my car)...
http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u281/RabbitSS/DSC00417.jpg
compared to now...
http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/4/web/2536000-2536999/2536801_209_full.jpg
its not real crazy, but clean and a little more aggressive than my stock one. for those who dont see the difference, it kinda duck tails up toward the back. it seems to flow better with the lines of the rear of the car.
car audio dave
10-19-2007, 12:57 PM
oh, best part is, they have it on clearance so it went from $499 to $129 and then the $110 of shipping is free. In total im spending $135 shipped on this genuine SS spoiler. i should buy several and wait til SLP is sold out, then sell them on ebay for a profit (like the GTO body kits and the center mount exhaust kits on the SS).

i don't see any difference in the two pictures you have posted???
Its a very subtle upslope toward the rear of the SS spoiler that doesn't exist in the Base or Z/28 ones.
car audio dave
10-19-2007, 06:07 PM
yea its not a real huge difference, but just enough so that in real life it makes it look a little more aggressive.

I agree John, but SLP no longer has the 98+ spoiler, the genuine ones go for $350+ and the reproduction ones dont fit right.
i was looking at the "freedom" spoiler, but its an add on to the stock one, and the cost of the spoiler, plus having it blended into the car, plus paint was a crazy amount of money.

this doesnt happen in other countries for many reasons. first off, in some countries if you do this and get caught your hands would get chopped off. in other countries, people worry more about where they will get food, or how they will support their families. here we have it so good that ****ing kids have nothing better to do then go key random cars in a parking lot.

10-21-2007, 06:33 PM
See thats the thing Dave even if the little worthless pieces of chit got caught, our wounderful bleeding heart court system would just pat them on the hands and out the door they go to do it again.
Cut their freaking hands off and just see how many kids are willing to do such acts.
It is just like spanking, if a kid knows he will get a spanking for doing something he knows is wrong, the odds of him doing it verses standing in time out is less likely.
Sorry about the car dude. I would have been furious.
btw the car I just bought my daughter got keyed at school on the drivers rear quarter.

10-21-2007, 06:45 PM
thanks chain, and i agree 100%. yea scratches stand out well on a dark car. i just tried to buff these out...some areas arent that noticeable, but most of it is deep, down to at least the primer if not metal. you can see those areas that are white in the pics. the other parts (darker) became less visible once i buffed it.
either way ill need to have it fixed, which means more hassel for me.

They probably hated you. But hey, they could be jealous too. Weird people nowdays.
I still have to take care of the door. I'm afraid of getting it repainted. I don't want it to mismatch or anything. I'm just waiting for more vandalism to be done so I can get the entire side painted or something...

3rd day we had my dad's new sierra, i took it to six flags and someone keyed the whole driver's bedside, initialed the gas cap and slashed the z-71 sticker. i didn't park it special and it was kinda dirty, so it didn't look brand new.
if i'd known who dun it, i woulda tore their car to pieces right there, wouldn't have been any paint left on it, no windows, then chained up to it and dragged it into something reallllly solid. i was so pissed. no security cameras either.

Ok, so I alreayd knew that my car was built by Granatelli for Matco tools, as part of some special thing they were doing. Granatelli gave me some mixed info, first he says that my car is 1 of 3 that he built, then he said that he did 5 of them.
well ive been trying to contact Matco tools to try and find out more info. I got an email back from them last night. Apparently they had a contest back in 2001 where they looked at their top selling franchises and awarded 5 cars to the winners. They were supposed to be 5 granatelli Camaros, but one person wanted a truck instead and another wanted tool boxes, so they only ended up gettign 3 camaros.
of the 3 camaros, only the first one was actually built by Granatelli, the rest were stock Camaros shipped to the winners, and the parts were shipped, and a dealership installed the parts. turns out that mine was the only one built by Granatelli.
so they gave me the name of the franchise owner that won my car, but Im having trouble finding him. I know he is in Arizona.
On another note, when i installed my new spoiler i saw two holes that would be used to mount the 98+ SS spoiler. Im not trying to figure out if my car was an SS at some point.

11-06-2007, 01:53 AM
i knew nothing about the car when i bought it other than it having 9700 miles and being 6t years old.
i saw the GMS air lid and shock tower brace, but the dealer insisted that it was stock otherwise. it wasnt until i looked under the car and found all of the GMS parts in the suspension that i wrote to granatelli.
heres the letter from granatelli:
David,
It sounds like the car we built for Matco Tools. In 2001 they built 3 cars and gave them away in a raffle. All the cars were built by me in Reseda California. I am happy to go over this info with you 805-***-****
J.R. Granatelli
and the one i just got from Matco tools:
There were 5 Camaros that were to be awarded. Only one was actually
completed by Granatelli. The winner of that Camaro was Distributor
Elliott ****. I am told that his car was the red one and this was the
one Granatelli completed. Elliott is in Arizona if that helps.
Of the other winners, one wanted a truck, another wanted tool boxes,
So only three Camaros were awarded. Granatelli shipped the special
parts to the winners and they were to have the dealerships put the parts
on the camaros. I can't locate anyone yet that knows who the other
winners were. Our previous VP of Sales was in charge of this.

so im now casually trying to sell it. If i can get $26,500 for it then ok. that way i can use whats left after paying it off and buy a normal LS1 fbody and then i wont be afraid to modify it.
heres my posting on ls1tech.com http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=810451
Cool information, good luck on the sale. Unfortunately I don't see that many people being interested in it at that price. I could understand the high price if it was a Berger Camaro, but isn't $26,500 practically what the car originally cost 6 years ago?
car audio dave
11-06-2007, 04:41 PM
yea, 26500 was right around the price new, without it being 1 of 3, or 1 of 1 or wahtever it is. that was when you could just go to a dealer and a low mile camaro. these days a low mile camaro is hard enough to find, let alone one with this kind of history.
im not expecting people to fall over each other to try and buy my car at that price. i hope that someone will come along who wants a rare, low mile fbody, who wants to collect it, not race it or drive it.
if it doesnt sell its not the end of the world. it will show me that i can modify it because i wont get much more than a normal low mile camaro.

Silverstone-Z
11-09-2007, 02:15 PM
Not necessarily
car audio dave
11-09-2007, 03:33 PM
i did a car fax, dodesnt say one way or another. i did get an options list for me car, and still doesnt say it is, so i assume it wasnt. i know that there were some cars (very few) that were sent to SLP but there were no RPO codes for an SS, but ill assume that wasnt the case with mine since it was sent to granatelli.
so since it appears that my car wont sell for that much, im not too concerned about modifying it now. With that being said heres an update of what i wanna do to it now:
-c5 z06 wheels (before years end)
-hptuner tune (before years end)
-2" cowl hood
-koni shocks
-charcoal suede seat inserts
-better headers (stainless)
-STS turbo kit
-2800 stall
-LS6 heads/cam (when miles get up higher)

As much as Id hate for ya to sell the car I can see it if you actually get the money for it. Seeing how much you paid for it and you basically got a brand new car its still a damn good buy. Personally Id keep it and just mod it because as long as you keep the Grantelli stuff its still made by them!!!!
Still love that damn car, only Camaro Id think about owning.

JR Granatelli is the nephew of Andy Granatelli, the famous race car driver, but JR is also a race car driver. He owns a company that makes lots of parts for camaros and mustangs, and even a part or two for the grand am.
A little known fact is that he is (or was, i dont know for sure) the CEO of Paxton Superchargers as well. back in 94 (i think) he built a series of about 250 Granatelli camaros with his paxton superchargers and lots of other goodies. Mine was like a tribute to those, but no supercharger.
and no sorry, i no longer have unlimited use of carfax, its only good for 30 days.

... just because it didn't sell for 'that' now Dave, doesn't mean it won't at a later date ... it is very possible 'the right guy' didn't see you trying to sell it ... personally, I would keep it AS IS or at the very least, make any modifications such they can come back off without any notice of them ever being there ... another thought, maybe have Granatelli do all the modifications which would then further add to the car's uniqueness ... just my two cents :)

i got these tips from a local club member who had a c6 z51 (i think thats what it was) and now has c6 z06. both cars got corsa exhaust and he had the stock systems sitting around at home collecting dust.

it was one thing to have corvette brakes on a grand am since it wasnt a common thing, but too many corvette parts can be used on camaros, so its nothing special and lots of people do it, so i wont. lol

so i ordered my tires, they are Falken Azenis RT-615, a racing tire, and i got only for the rear, 275/35zr18. they shop originally wanted $270 each, but they are now having a sale and they dropped to $237 each, so its going barely over $500 with tax.
after these, im getting the Mickey Thompson Drag Radials for the stock 16s, size 255/50r16 for $171 each, then ill get my other falkens for the front wheels.

DAVE what the hell, I told you not to sell the camaro, damnit, ohhh and the yenko camaro wasn't much of anything either back in the 60's it is now worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Camaro is better than the firebird plain and simple, it was meant to be an affordable drag car, original idea of it. Firebirds are just i dunno not my taste they have too much flash, too much going for it.
and shoot I can't wait to see what is going to be said about the car im selling my grand am for.
Dave don't you dare sell your car, man seriously first you sell one for a girl now for money, pshshsh, keep it and love it and enjoy it, I would buy the car from you if I had the money.

Ohhh I saw the baddest ass grand am, still the coolest one ever, it is a pro drag 02 grand am is what it was but now it kinda is slightly modified, like a chevy big block, and pretty much full race chasis and it has GA headlights and SE tail lights, and the door handles, other than that it is not really a GA anymore. really cool I have pics on my phone I will have to get them onto my computer.
