I was wondering if this would work...and PLEASE tell me if it will or wont...and what I would need to make it work. But i was thinkin getting one of the universal mufflers, well two of them and just cut off my muffler on my 2000 Grand Am GT and just have straight pipes and weld the mufflers on...will it work???

Umm what do you mean by universal mufflers?
Our exhaust is single in, dual out. To do what you're saying you'd Y-pipe it and put mufflers on each.
I'm really against that idea, a new single in/dual out muffler(Flowmaster, Magnaflow, etc) is the best idea for GAs IMO.

A few things about that exhaust:
1) It'll sound like crap, hope you're deaf when driving, cuz that'll be loud.
2) Every car you hear that sounds like a bee has that muffler
3) If you're gonna do an exhaust set-up, save your money and do it right. Here's a clip of the Flowmaster 80 series, which is the most popular muffler setup for the 99+ GA.

Here's a link to an 80 series at Summit: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=FLO%2D42583&N=700+4294923429+4294922711+400238+4294922710+3037 56+115&autoview=sku (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=FLO%2D42583&N=700+4294923429+4294922711+400238+4294922710+3037 56+115&autoview=sku)
You can probably find tips like those somewhere, or just get normal dual tips on each side.

why the tilted exhaust tips? FYI: I remember seeing them at wal-mart for cheap before.

About a month ago I found Fbody (camaro/firebird) mufflers under 'clearance' there. They sound really good, I ran one with 2.5" pipes on my v6 SE when I had it.
