I have a 1996 Grand Am with a Quad 4. Recently after having some work done by a mechanic, I was told that I should probably have my rear fuel filter changed because it was looking corroded/rusty. So I asked the mechanic to change the fuel filter.

But after trying, the mechanic told me “he was unable to get the fuel filter off due to the corrosion”. So I took my car to a different mechanic and asked them to change the rear fuel filter. I was once again told the same thing (That the fuel filter will not come off due to corrosion). I was told it would cost upwards of $500 to change the fuel filter since the fuel line would also have to be changed which means the fuel tank will have to be dropped.

Has anyone experienced anything similar to this? If so were you able to somehow get the fuel filter off? If so how? What do you guys recommend? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Thanks!

Not WD-40..!!!! but get some good penatrating oil. Lock Ease comes to mind. The fuel pump is under the gas tank near the rear axcle. Soak the two nuts on either side of the filter. once a day for 3 to 5 days. Let it sit a few days then take it to a shop. It should come off then. Lock ease will brake loose manafold bolts, it ought to take care of gas lines. Just soak it and let it sit. repeat for a few days.

That should work and save a few hunderd dollers. I repeat do Not use WD-40. If where you go don't carrie Lock Ease ask the person behind the counter what a good penatrating oil is use for your problem.

I droped my gas tank last summer. there is two main straps, 3 fuel lines and a few exhaust brackets that need removed to drop the tank. It's not that bad. Oh... not bad as long as the tank is mostly empty. It's a Bit*h when it's full. Gas is about 8 lbs a gallon.
