Question, will 18" rims fit right on a GAGT? or do you have to have aftermarket struts to make them fit? im asking because when i tried putting 18" rims on my 99 GASE the tires were like half an inch away from rubbing the strut.

no they fit just fine have to have the right size tires of coarse, i believe 225/40r18 is the size tire you need.

Where are they close to rubbing? The spring perch or the bottom of the strut body?

Front, back, or both?

on my old se i used to have it was the bottom of the strut, where the bottom end of the spring would sit.

Ahhh, as long as your tires are close to stock size (225/40/18) you'll be fine back there with clearance at the spring perch. You don't need that much, as that spring perch doesn't get any closer to the tire when you go over bumps.

Struts have nothing to do with if a wheel will fit.
A 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 or 20 will all fit a stock GASE and GAGT, if you have the proper width and backspacing/offset.
Backspacing and offset are two different things that have the same function. A 40mm backspaced wheel is not the same as a wheel with 40mm offset.

Backspacing is the distance from the rear rim/edge of the wheel to the hub mounting surface.

Offset is the distance of the hub mounting surface from the center of the wheel.

Then once you have the proper wheels or need the proper tire. A tire too wideor too tall for the vehicle may cause interference.

john is a wise wise man, listen to him (i was gonna say what he said but in different words).

on another note, i had 235/40/18s on my grand am and it was lowered on H&Rs and had no rubbing issues.

Only rubbing you have is your SCT frontend pulling in and out of my driveway. lol

And to think, I had the enterence of my driveway redone so our GT didn't scrap pulling in. Where were you back then to have the pitch tested out! lol

Maybe the isue was that when you tried to put the 18" in the SE, dont change the size of the ruber.

The 19" are inpresive in that GA man.
