Ok this is not for a grand am but it is for my friends G6 and i figured someone on here may know. He is changing his head unit out and needs to have the wiring diagram for the stock radio so he can hook the speakers up to the new one....He is aware of the fact that he will loose driver display information doing it this way without the speacial kit but he cant afford that right know so if you could help me out with a diagram it would be great...just need what colors correspond with what wires

In addition to the DIC, he will also lose the ability for the OBDII codes to be read. I know in my G5, the codes are stored in the Radio.

Anyways, is there a reason why he just cannot stick with the stock unit until he can get the proper kit, avoiding chopping his harness to hell?

If he must go without the DIC, at least have him spend the 15 bucks for this: http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=103000&i=120702103&tp=736 That way he isn't hacking his cars electronics...

Its just insane what the radios responsibilities are now-a-days. Its almost like GM is giving it to people in saying that HAVE to stay with the OEM stereos. Its ghey!

Sounds like they're going the way of Windows and Internet Explorer!

LMFAO! I hadn't thought about it that way. Microsoft is invading Ford, so GM may be following suit. >:[

Its not that they don't like Aftermarket, its just that they're trying to cheapen stuff by throwing all of the things that would have previously been in seprate boxes and modules into the head unit of the stereo. Even my turn signal clicker noise is now in the head unit!

I don't know the cut between people who put after market stereos in, and those who don't, but it seems like a rather dumb idea to put that kind of functionality in the stereo unit. Moving all that equipment for your chimes, reading ODB codes, and stuff that typically STAYS in the car SHOULD be in a separate box. I'm positive that a large number of people pull the stock system out and put their own stereos in. Its one of the first things that DO get changed in a car. I actually had my stereo in my Camaro BEFORE I had the damned thing on the road! {chuckle}

Also, its something the aftermarket audio market doesn't actually mind IMO. The reason: its one more item you have to buy to put a stereo in. Why not get another hundred out of ya?
