Hi, I was hoping maybe you guys could help me out. I have a 99 Grand Am that just had a new belt put on.The car ran fine at first but now the belt is starting to squeal again when I first start the car after it has sat overnight. When the car warms up it stops making the noise.Any suggestions.:???:

Sounds like maybe a wobbly pully. Look and see if there are any pullies moving in wierd ways.

The belt is loose. It may have streached after the install. Power strearing belts are BAD for that.

When you start the car the belt is cold so it slips, giving the squeel sound, once it slips and warms up, it sticks so to speak so it shuts up.

Open your hood and grab the main surp-belt. Pull up and push down. It should not move more than a inch or so total up and down. I'm betting you have like 2 inches or more.

I'm sure that's it.

So would you recommend put a Gator Back Belt on the car?
Also, is it hard putting the belt on?

I would suggest you check the belt tensioner. If it is not putting enough pressure on the belt to keep it tight, the belt could squeel. Since the belt is relatively new, I doubt it has stretched to the point of needing to be replaced. Yes, the gatorback belt from Goodyear is about the best on the market. But, Your existing belt is new, so why put out the money on the gatorback until you need a new belt?
