was wondering if there is such thing as a temporary tint? something u can stick up on the window and take it down whenever u want? would be a great idea so u couldnt get harrassed by cops or u could use it for when u were parked so people cant see in your car.

black trashbags?

not sure how they are in michigan, but down in indiana they seem to be laxed in tint laws... well atleast ticketing on tint.

i beleive legal is 35, and down the as1 line.... i have 5% all around and 30% on the whole windshield and knock on wood havent heard a thing about it in 3 years this new years eve. so id say if your not going to tint either trash bags or those shade things you put in the winders. but reguardless if you have something not to be seen in your car or not, chances are your windows are going to be in peices.... i know atleast 3 times my car has been attempted to be broken into if not more and at those times i had nothing b ut a radar detector that was 3 years old.

well i got busted for my tint on the front and had to take it off or it would have been 2 points. and the state cop that busted me lives in the area and when they dropped the ticket in court he said if he catches me with tint again he wont drop the ticket.

Ouch... Normally tint is a "Fix-it" ticket.

yea 2 pts if u get a ticket, u can contest the ticket and take it off and they will most likely drop the ticket. i even tried getting a doctors note but u gotta then apply to the state to have it put on your license but it was turned down, and i kept the prescription thing in my car and hte cop didnt care and still gave me a ticket.

You got lied to hard core. You CAN NOT get points for tint in Michigan PERIOD.

When you get a ticket for tint you have 2 options.

1. Remove the tint and they will drop the fine.

2. Keep the tint and pay the fine

No points either way.

Cops lie to people making them believe that the penalty's are very bad when its nothing more than a smack on the wrist, hell its not even as bad as *a smack on the wrist*.

Either that or they're just plain ignorant of the law. Thats quite common.

I've known a few people who've gone through police academy around here. According to them, it basically it focuses very little on the actual wording of the law, but instead focusing on how to pick the best speed trap locations, or some other stupid irrelevant things for the classroom stuff. The wording and meanings of the law are a single 10 page chapter in the book.

About 80% is physical training, shooting, and driving to keep up with the Duke boys...

well i heard the 2pts thing changed a year or so ago, someone told me they learned the hard way for not taking it off and said he got 2 points for the ticket. so where do u find out exactly what the point system is for traffic violations? can u find it online or how does that work?

Your state's DMV or DOT website should have the vehicle codes. If you cannot find anything there, you can ask the local DMV office.

Call the police station and ask what your options are.

The first time i got a tint ticket the cop told me i had to remove it and i had no options. So i called the station and asked what my options are and what the penalty's are. They told me the same thing i just told you. I have had 3 tint tickets now over the course of 6 years. The law has not changed at any point in time. There are no points.

Sucks that you might have to take off your tint. Talk to your local DMV and ask them if what are the medical excemptions for tint. I know Iowa has it and I was looking for the tint laws for michigan and said yes their is medical excemptions. In Iowa you just have to go to your doctor and say that your eyes are sensitive to the light or something and take it to the DOT, which is what we call our DMV, they will give u a card to carry with ur registration and if u you get pulled over you can get of, but its only 35% on the front windows, you can get on their with the medical thing. I would look into it if I were you. Or go to a local tint shop and ask them about the medical excemptions they should know. Also I am going to rip out my tint and put 35 and 5 just like you but I got the windshield tinted so it will look good hopefully after I turn 18. Do you like having ur windows 35 and 5, looks good I know people dont like having differnt percentages on a 4 door, but I dont want to get busted having 5 on the front unlike Brandon. Later.

i already tried the medical thing, what a mess that was. i had to go back to my doctor like 2 or 3 times to have him fill stuff out and then HE sends it in to the state for the final review and it was denied. im a redhead so i tried using the fact that im sensitive to the sun and sunburn easy, but it was turned down.

You have to only use it for optical issues. If you're claiming skin, they'll tell you to use sunblock unless you have a serious condition where you're literally "allergic" to sunlight.

alright well i went today and had this guy do my tint for me, he has a side business that he does outta his garage here in town, charged me 50 to do the front 2 windows and got 20%, and i asked him about the points thing and he said yes it depends how the cop writes the ticket, he said one of the cops here in town gave him a ticket and he fought it and brought in a doctors note that he had just got but didnt have it before the ticket, so the judge wouldnt drop it and he said he got 2 points for it. he said he thinks the ticket was wrote as an obstruction of view. but either way he got 2 pts for tint.
