hey i have a friend that has a 94 maxima dohc (190hp/200tq) w 150k miles
it misses (1 cylinder is misfire) at low rpms but gets up pretty quick.

we replaced the injectors, coil on plug, spark plugs.

so we suspect that who ever worked on it replaced the variable valve timing assembly but did'nt set the timing right.
but all the other cylinders seem fine.
when you remove the coil plug on the others the idle gets rougher same for when you remove the injector plug....

can anyone shed some light on this?

thanks

If the variable timing wasn't set right you'd be having more than one cyl misfiring. May have a bad plug wire.

coil on plug.
we switched it to another cylinder the missfire stayed in the same cylinder.

we replaced the injector too...

that plug is firing also...

Okay, do you or someone you trust know how to do a proper leak down test. You may have a bent or sticky exhaust valve.

yea i know how to...could i rent one at auto zone??

as for the bent or burnt valve thats what i told him too.

i don't think it's worn rings...this is somewhat a high performance engine and plus it's not burning any oil.
nissan designed it that way too...so

but a bunrt valve could be possible, when he first got it it was detnating(msp) the previous owner used the wrong grade of gas.

but you can hear like a hiss sound kinda like an exhaust leak coming from the missing cylinder.

That's good. You should be able to put a refundable deposit at Advanced Auto Parts. I don't know about Autozone.
