well, ive been wondering what muffler to buy to make my 99grandam se sound mean as hell...with out having to replace my entire exhaust yet with like the pace setter etc cause they get so costly... I was thinking about adding a flowmaster 80 series ,removing the stock muffler and just add some tips...im hoping that would make it sound better? Any Suggestions?

i have the flowmaster 80 with a resonator delete and it sounds mean as hell. dont spend 800 dollars on a cat back. Not worth it IMO.

Only the Borla is 800, Pacesetter was around 325 last time I checked, decent price considering it's a full cat-back with mandrel bends.

im peicing together a exhaust setup with an 80 series, hi flow cat, 2 1/2 in pipe mandrel bends, and new set of tips, debating on headers or not yet. you can look on youtube for clips of grand ams with the same setup and others i believe its worth the look.

Well next question i guess should i keep my stock pipe size and jus toss on the flow master 80 series or have them run a straight pipe and what size if i did it 2 1/4 or 2 1/2inch?

Flowmaster 80s have a larger diameter than stock, the smallest inlet diameter is 2.5", so if you kept stock you would have to use venturi reducers for the smoothest size transition. If you replace the pipe I would recommend 2.5" just for the ease of future upgrades. If you want sound and looks just use the reducers and get some tips.

do they make the pace setter for the 3400? i dont want one but i thought only borla made a cat back. There is a thread over on GAGT about headers from them but im unsure if pace setter makes them. Kind of off topic but if i got s&s raw and spray painted them with heat resistant spraypaint would that keep them from rusting? Sry for the thread jack.

i have the flowmaster 80 with the resonator delete as well, lemme tell ya if people are stupid and dont know what a grand am is they will think you have a small v8 under the hood... its not really terriblely loud at idle, but when you step on it and want to say hi to someone, it will get their attention....

I have a brand new 40 series in the box for $50 shipped if your interested. I know youre looking at the 80 series but if you change your mind, it would save you a few bucks.

the difference between upgrading the exhaust size is this, if you upgrade the size it will upgrade the performance of your car. also you can buy a hi-flow cat and delete the resinator (sp?) for better sound and performace. as fot the headders i believe the only company that makes them for the 3400 is S&S.

Pacesetter does make headers for the 3400, they're just not designed to work in the N-Bodys.
