I'm going to make an appt. tomorrow to get my windows tinted. I want 35% on all 5 windows and nothing to the front windshield. In PA the law is 70%, but in MD its 35% i live in MD, but about 1 mile from PA. I tend to find myself in PA quite often. My question is if i drive in PA with 35% tint is it still illegal since im from MD? Thanks!

Yep. It is illegal. Its our responsibilities as drivers to know the laws of where we drive. Its no different than truckers.

No prob.
This is not to say that a cop MIGHT let ya off because you are out of state. But the chance is there that the cop might do ya in regardless.
In Ontario, on a 4-door, its illegal to have *ANY* tint on the front door windows, as well as in the main section of the windshield. You can have black tint at the top and bottom, but it cannot interfere with your view of the road. On a two door, its more lax stating that you can have tint, but, its pretty light tint. Same deal with the windshield though.

thats not true. If his car is registered in MD, and MD says you can have X % of tint a cop from another state can not wright you a ticket. Another example would be front license plates. Some states say you need them some say you don't. If your from a state thats says you don't you can not get a ticket out of state for not having one. It all depends on what state the car is registered in.

so if i got pulled over in a state that only requires one plate and wisconsin requires two...but i dont have the front plate on, they can give me a ticket in the state that only requires one because my state requires two?

I'm not too sure about that. I gonna say no because the cop technically wouldn't have jurisdiction over something like that anyway. But I doubt cops from another state will pull u over for something thats not a law in there state to begin with.

well every once in a while i roll my window down to get fresh air, i hate being hot. I would never smoke or let any one smoke in my car. If they light one up i'll pull over and they can finish it on the curb. :)

12-27-2007, 12:53 PM
Oh you will find yourself leaving your windows up since u have tint. I never roll mine down only when needed. I get paranoyed if someone tells me to unlock the windows because i leave em looked cuz i want em up!
Ryan625
12-27-2007, 01:39 PM
haha...is that because you don't want them to get messed up or you just want people to see it? :) I got it done today! It looks amazing, darker than i thought. When i pulled in my driveway i pulled in at an angle and went in to get my camera, but i don't know where it is. :( The only thing i have a problem with is on the dot matrix the tint didn't stick too well. The guy said it happens alot, but he told me if it was still like that after about 2 weeks, i could cut the top piece off and put a piece of black vinyl over it.
JBlack16
12-27-2007, 07:56 PM
I just like people seeing the tint on the car.ya that DOT matrix i have to do something about but not to worried about it i guess. What percentage did u go with sucks u couldnt find ur camera wanted to see some pics.
Ryan625
12-27-2007, 08:01 PM
40% but it looks damn good...tomorrow i'll get some pics the camera was in my moms car. I'll have to keep it in the ga, so i can get good pics with some scenery behind me when i drive by a good place.

yeah that dot matrix stuff showed up when i got my 35% window tint. but i got mine done in the summer time. they told me one day when it was real hot so the glue would stick better i could go back there and press more on it to make it look better and i did. i used the back of my fingers and pressed it on more, it actually worked pretty good. i was just a little confused as to why the place that installed it couldn't initially do it, but hey its fixed now. i know its probably hard for you to get that nice hot day now cause it's in winter so idk what to tell ya. although that vinyl idea doesn't sound half bad, i might just have to check into that. good luck
Ryan625
12-27-2007, 10:18 PM
The back window ia a little bubbly, i'll have to get a close up of that. It looks like it's in the crack where they couldn't press real good on it, so i don't know? I'll take it back after like 2 weeks and see what they say. And when i look in the rear view mirror it looks kind of wavy.

I don't agree with the first part.
My buddy went to Los Angeles for a vacation. Drove the entire way. He drove to Michigan, rented a car, and took off. About half way, he got pulled and was given a ticket (I don't remember the state). Cops in THIS area typically give a 10% lee-way on speeding tickets usually before they even start to look at you funny. He was doing about 5-10mph OVER the limit with cruise on, and was given a $50 ticket. He pleaded with the cop telling him about the 10%, and the cop said that they typically give 1mph over. At 2, they will issue a ticket.
As a side not, to me with all honesty, I don't buy that 1mph deal, since something as changing tire sizes can affect your speedo. Like, if you get new tires on, your speedo may be dead on accurate, but once the tire wears down, it is going to get off-set. Hell, when I went from 14 inch tires to 15 inch tires (Winter vs summer) on the Camaro I noticed a 10km/hr change when doing 100km/hr. When the speedo was showing me that I was doing 120, I really was just doing 110. (High way speeds are 100km/hr)
Now I know speeding is speeding, but what myself and my friend are accustomed to driving here in Ontario is definitely different than what it is in the states. When it comes to things like license plates, the matter of jurisdiction will come into play, yes. But when it comes to add-ons, which basically covers anything thats not factory, a cop can give tickets for.

I've heard from plenty of people about the dot matrix not sticking, it's just the glue not fully cured, it reaches it's full adhesiveness in a few days. A solution in addition to vinyl is to LIGHTY sand the dot matrix down.

I re-looked on the website that i had my tint done from and it doesn't say anything about a guarantee against bubbling, just fading or cracking. Hopefully when i call them next week sometime they can cut it off at the dot matrix so i can put a strip of vinyl over it. Personally i don't want them to do the vinyl cause they'll probably charge me even though i already have the vinyl. The bottom of the back window is bubbling and on the top is a huge bubble that looks like shit. Ohh well, i'll complain to them and tell them how badly they did for being the only company in my county that stocks the best tint and has the best reputation. :) That'll teach them not to mess with me. lol

this is kinda late but, WOW 70% law? thats like no tint lol. i think 35% is close to nothing. in MO its supposed to be 35% in front and any % in back 3 windows. on my old SE i had 5% in back 3 windows, 15% in front 2 windows, and the whole front windshield tinted 35%. BIG TIME ILLEGAL. the only probs i had w/ it in 2 years was 1 ticket from an a**hole cop and it didnt pass inspection. had to peel the front windshield tint off. on my new GT, i have 15% in front and 5% in back, no windshield tint. I dont care if its illegal. Cops usually wont pull u over unless ur doing something stupid or their low on their monthly quota ;) i tell them im protecting my investment from harmful rays that warp my plastic  in Texas any tint is legal, why not here?

Yeah, Nick, no Pontiac indent between the nostril grills, I have the same thing, it actually looks pretty clean. Along with extra time needed for fitment, it's a tradeoff for a bumper thats a fifth of the cost of GM.
