The differences between the base and GT is mainly just option packages and maybe some minor appearance/tuning.

Both have the 3.8 that is Naturally aspirated.

GTP is 3.8L supercharged V6, the GXP is the LS4 V8 (FWD Variant of the LSx series).

UMM... Yea... if its an 07, then its NOT supercharged. Last pproduction year for the S/C in a GP was 05 and it was in a GT, not GTP. They stopped making the GTP when the GXP came out. Anyway the only worthwhile GP to buy is the GXP. All the rest after 05 are garbage. Not to mention the low resale value because of the rental market. Tell your friend to look at a different car. Oh yea and the 3.8 didnt have the LIM problem, they had head gasket problems.

Ummm hate to break it to you but the 07 GP came in three forms, the base, the GT and the GXP. The base was a 3800, the GT was a SC 3800 and the GXP was the 5.3 V8 LS4.

I personally dont mind the GPs. They are great cars and as proven will last a LONG LONG LONG time. Yea they dont have the best resale value but they are nice car for the cash. The SC 3800 will literally out live the car in mostly every single aspect. The engine is just that stout.

Im betting that your friend is getting a nice discount right??

Like I said the GP GT is a great car for the money. Its solid built and if you can keep your foot out of the gas you will get some decent gas MPG. About 20-23 city and up to 33 on the highway.

Basically if the 3800 is in the car that is one thing you dont have to worry about.

yes josh is correct the GT has the supercharger now since the GTP went away and the GXP has a v8. if he wants that car have him wait until the G8 comes out and the grand prix will drop in price and value.

30,000 for a grand prix and not sc?

spend the extra 2500 bucks and get a way better car
http://www.dreyerreinboldbmw.com/bmwindy/car.asp?id=161, im sorry i really dont have it for american cars after getting my bmw... something about how the seats are made to hug you, last a heck of alot longer, their 6 cylinder na engines do more then our sc engines... better engineered and dont feel like a rolling tin can..... dont get me wrong i love my ga, but 225 hp out of a 6, getting 3-5 mph better then my 175 hp 6.... it aint right. not to mention the bmw will hold its value way longer... and the bull about having them serviced costing so much, if you can work on a grand am you can work on a bmw.

The only issue with the Bimmers is getting parts for them.

Also, apparently they're very vulnerable to engine sludge buildup. When it comes to those, DO NOT follow BMW's lengthy oil service reccommendations... change it SOONER than BMW reccommends.
