i think that is rice... the point of having CF is to save weight for the track, not for looks. if anyone gets CF for the looks for a show, then i call them stupid and then walk away from them before physical harm is dealt to either one of us. i would love CF for my car, but i dont have the funds, and i focus on motor then weight/looks.

but to each their own, just don't expect me to pat you on the back for skimping out money for the looks (kinda like putting a wing on a ff car)

i like how CF looks with certain colors like Red, or Purple.....I would get a CF hood just for looks...but i wouldnt do a fake CF hood.

I have tried a couple types of "carbon fiber" vinyl. Nothing looks like real carbon fiber. Some are close and some are just dots and dashes printed on vinyl.

Rvinyl.com is a "good" company - low prices, fast delivery, etc. I got some tail light tint from them through ebay.

i think theres nothing rice about it at all...whats a ricer?...to me its the attitude of a person or people who put tailpipes on there car and think there cars ready to take on the world...dont really see what a vinyl has to do with it considering half the people on this site probly got vinyls or stickers on there car (mayb its just the fashion they do it in?) lol...just thought it be a good way to wrap parts that they dont make for are cars

No?

Making something look like something it's not isn't rice?

Putting carbon fiber looking decal on your trunk doesn't make it carbon fiber.

I could spray paint my watch gold and tell everyone it's 24k if that is how things work these days.

A "Ricer" in my terms, along with many others, is about being a poser. Trying to be, or passing off something that it's not.

and in ur claim modding a grand ams looks to make it look fast isnt rice?...most people i kno put carbon fiber on there cars for looks not the typicle reason its made for...and how much time u expect to save at the track with a carbon fiber hood?...if you wanna save time buy a sports car...if ur putting it on a not so fast car for the weight then to me ur a ricer...o wait but then again if its on a camaro or TA i bet thats rice to?...guess people just look at it diff....ur right to some and mayb im right to some, if not its just my view on a rice(chicken flavored):P

Considering how nose heavy the GA is to begin with, putting on a lighter trunk lid would be one of the last steps I’d do.

W3rd.

Regardless of weight savings, etc. etc. etc. CF vinyl looks like sh*t when compared to the real thing. I'm sure you'll impress many a 16 y/o boys with the vinyl route but even then they'll only point and laugh if you ever pull up next to real CF.

Stop trying to justify this poor decision. Most parts that you want for your car can be made in CF- you need to take the initiative to build SUFFICIENT interest and find a company to do so.

Another alternative is similar to what tenspeed has done and have parts overlaid with CF; here's an example of a CF gas lid I had wrapped for a project that I was working on at that point.

Sik do you just wrap the lid in the cf mat like f/glass then put some clear on it?

Nothing wrong with doing mods that make your car faster, as opposed to doing mods tha tmake your car looks like it's faster when in fact it's not, not to mention just adding more weight and junk to most likely slow it down.

And if some num nuts in a Camaro or Firebird put carbon fiber sticker on their hood I would make fun of them twice as much.

Doesn't matter what kind of car it is, a rice is rice.

Having it wrapped in carbon fiber mat is different than putting on a sticker that looks like carbon fiber.

covering parts in real CF is not as bad as covering in CF vinyl, but its not much better.

the few camaro peeps that do have CF hoods have actually painted them to match the car. the look of CF has become universal for imports.

ultimately you can and will do what you want to your car, we are just giving you our opinions.

C/F trunk lids are already available, i think i remember seeing them for like 500-600 bucks + shipping of course. i know someone that can wrap C/F and to do something like a hood would take time and would probably cost more or right about the same right now that buying a real C/F hood. i'm pretty sure the fabric is up around $90 a yard. But C/F needs to look perfect when wrapping it, its not like fiberglass when putting it on.

Sik do you just wrap the lid in the cf mat like f/glass then put some clear on it?

The stock lid was wrapped in CF a resin layer was added and then sent to me. I then cleared it with the rest of my car when I was working on the paint last year.

No...as explained- if you're purely going for the look a lot of places will wrap anything in CF and it will look a million times better than CF vinyl.
