Just a few questions for y'all out there who are knoledgeable with the "juice".

In a Nitrous kit, what all is needed besides the bottle and fuel and Nitrous solonoids, line and nozle?

Also how does a perge kit hook up?

Next say if someone just wanted the look of nitrous( for show) could they fill the bottle with another gas and purge that?

I know its a bunch of silly questions, but jsut stuff I wondered about. So many kids these days see it in "the movies".

If someone just wanted the look, they could probably use paintball high pressure air tanks, and fill them with air. Could get carbon fiber/steel tanks depending on what you wanted it to look like. Not sure what purging is, but it'd probably look pretty realistic bottlewise.

I sprayed 2 seasons on my last car and let me tell you man. Do some research on Nitrous before you plan on using it. I've heard the horror stories, blah blah blah reason why is because the person using it doesn't know how it works.

www.howstuffworks.com

Do not get the "Nitrous" look bro, get the real deal if you're going to do it.

1. Those are pretty much all the components. It wouldn't be bad to upgrade your fuel system a bit. ie. fuel pump, FPR, injectors, (depending on the shot) retard the timing a bit, colder spark plugs.

2. A purge kit hooks up to a solenoid. What the purge kit does is clear the line, so that you have a nice clean smooth shot of nitrous. Not air in between the line, chunks of garbage, blah blah.

3. Do not try to acheive the look of nitrous, I guess if you wanted you could buy those basstubes that look like a nitrous bottle, what is the name again? SAS or BAS or something stupid like that...........movies these days :D

Jalal, you beat me to it. :D But I would like to add my few cents here.

In the purge, what you are doing specifically is flushing out all the gaseous nitrous from the lines and replacing it with fresh liquid nitrous. Over time, the temperature will cause nitrous to go to a gas.

I am a strong proponent of wek kits. They just give you an added safety margin. Plus by having a fuel jet, you can fine tune the fuel/nitrous mixture via the said fuel jet.

I have sprayed for 3 years on my ZX2 and it is holding up just fine. Like you, I made sure to take precautions first. I used to have a chip, but sold it. Why worry about 10extra HP when I have 75 at my fingertips?

When people mention plugs, they must realize that if they have platinums, GET RID OF THEM!!! Nitrous oxide eats platinum up in no time. I always keep one of my OEM Ford Motorcraft double platinums at my desk here to show ppl what it does. However, from what I have heard, iridium plugs are a good susbstitute as they offer the long life of platinums without the adverse side effects that nitrous has on them. If you have the V6 engine, then iridiums will definitely keep you from scraping your knuckles on plug changes. Me, I just use copper-cored NGK V-powers and when the nitous season is over, I put the platinum plugs back in the engine.

Of course running 92 octane or higher fuel is a must.

Setting up a nitrous system is not brain surgery. You just have to take a bit of extra care after it is installed. And...I would not recommend using an air/fuel meter wired into the OEM oxygen sensor. Those are usually too slow to react. Use a separate sensor or get a wideband system. Exhaust gas temp sensors are better in that respect.

I think that pretty much covers it. Jalal or others, did I miss anything??

ook well lets get this straight. I'm not just "going for the look" for my ride. If I'm installing something its going to work no matter what it is. Thats like buying 2 subs and only hooking up 1. haha

Anyway just curious to know a little more about the stuff. and find out how to install it the right way.

I went to a few shows this summer and it seems like everyone has at least a bottle in their trunk, and if they are purging it, I don't understand why if they're not acutally getting ready to race. I do know it's not the cheapest stuff to refill if your just going to purge out a 10lb bottle. lol

MagusXIII : Thanks for adding, I am at work posting so I don't really have time to get into it. hahahah you pretty much summed it all up. Finally a fellow nitrous user...:D

nineteen88ga : Don't worry about asking questions about Nitrous on this board, that's what members are here for, to answer your questions. At car show's people think it is important to have some form of "forced induction" whether it be Nitrous/Supercharger/Turbo kits, they think that they will get more points for having it, and is a nice touch to the engine bay, or trunk as wel. I mean if a car had a supercharger, you would probably say, "Whoooa it's supercharged" if a vehicle has nitrous, you always get better reactions like, "Holy S***, he's got NAAAWWZ!" (lol) you know nitrous has always meant you were a "SERIOUS" racer. Times have changed however....

Everyone uses nitrous now, from their grandmas Volvos to Hyundai Elantras. Nitrous is very user-friendly these days, like the ZEX kit...engages at WOT, and will shut off if it senses the Air/Fuel leaning out or being to rich. The ZEX kit should be the first Nitrous kit you purchase nineteen88ga.

The reason why people purge their nitrous line when they are not racing is to basically show off. How many times have you seen a "allmotor" car revving his engine for the hell of it? Or heard a turbocharged car passing by and shooting off his Blowoffvalve? It's all to get looks you know what I mean? I must say when I was younger, (16 years old, I'm 20 now) I was doing the same thing. Purging on people just for the hell of it to get a reaction out of them.

Hope this helps out with your questions....ok I gotta get back to work otherwise Eric will kill me.

Ohhhh BTW: It costs $35-50 depending where you purchase it, to refill a 10lb bottle.

Jalal, I have been running a nitrous express 75shot wet kit in my ZX2 since 2000. FYI, the ZX2 does NOT have a fuel return line so that pretty much left ZEX out of the loop. However, and please dont take this as an anti-dry bash in any way as you also have nitrous experience, but I just feel safer with wet kits.

The ZEX kit you mention, does it have the safety shutoff you mentioned in the base kit? Or is that an optional part? Nitrous Express also has such a safety switch. But as I said, I would never wish to depend on it unless I had a wideband O2 sensor. Low fuel pressure shutoffs, IMO, I think are safer. But that is what I was referring to with regards to the fuel/nitrous mix on a wet kit. If you are running too lean, just plop in a bigger fuel jet.

I sadly am on the upper edge of your price range for bottle refills. In the Akron, Ohio area, Summit Racing is the only speed shop in the area left and as such, nitrous oxide is 4.80 a pound! So after taxes, I hit the 50.76 price mark. It is because of that you will never catch me purging in non-race situations! And people wonder why their bottle runs dry so fast?? If you wanna purge to show off or give the "NAAAAWWWZZZ" look, just run a tank of CO2 into a purge solenoid separate from the nitrous system and use that! After all, it is only about, what, 30¢-50¢ per pound of carbon dioxide?

Ahhh ok ok Don....

I like to knock the Dry Nitrous kits as well. I know that ZEX is dry but it is a good starter kit for the fact that the "base" kit comes with everything you need to make sure your car doesn't run lean. I am more turned toward the Wet kit, but on my LS/VTEC Integra I ran a 100 shot direct port "NOS" setup for awhile. It was a pain to remove because I pretty much had to give away my intake manifold because of the plate system being drilled into it and the such.

Whoa man, I have a pretty good hookup out here for nitrous. $2.00 per pound, so I never minded purging all over people. Hey have you ever put the purge tube on the right side of your car and purge on bicyclists that are in the bike lane? hahahahahahha it's the greatest reaction man.....

Ok enough of my havoc....take care.

Hope you don't end up giving someone frostbite doing that.

Hahaha they are not that close to the purge, but they are close enough to hear it and see the vapor being released. haha....good times...:P
