:???: ok I have a quick question. I want to change the sopt my front neon tube is at and was wondering if that little plastic fin thing is there for a reason. it just hanges down, Im guessing to protect the engine. Do I need it? cuase if not I want to take it off. I hope you guys know what Im talking about. I dont have a pic of it right now, but its just the plastic fin that hangs down below the ratiator.

its just a plastic air dam...it doesnt serve any important purpose. im going to remove mine in spring for a little more ground clearance since i scrap pulling out of lots.

I believe its there to protect from rock chips and to help deflect air into the radiator for cooling. Up to you if you want it there or not.

I think it just deflects air, as well as debris up to the radiator

Correct. On our cars I don't think removing it will be that big of a difference in teh coolign department. However on vehicles like a 3rrd and 4th gen FBodies where they are strictly 'bottom feeders', that its about the only way they get air directed through the radiator. My '92 Z28 was lowered and it didn't take long for me to rip it right off the car. It also didn't take long to notice my engine tempatures to be higher. Very little difference moving than sitting still.

When I bought my 97, half the plastic piece was broken off, so I just took the rest off :P I haven't had any cooling problems.

So is it ok to take it off on the 99+ since there is the opening in the front bumper for air to get to the radiator. Mines all cut up from bottoming out in driveways.

ok Now the thing is I have a open grill and the bottom wholes are open to, so I should be getting enought air, right. Im gonna take it off and see what happens, then if my car gets to hot, ill just re install it.

If you want to take it off, then take it off. Im sure its not that big of a deal since we have two open grills in front

The air dam. Although it isn't the entire source of air for cooling the radiator, I wouldn't remove it.
