I am looking for a tuner where I can get more power out of my 3.4L. I saw one a while back that had a couple of setting where I could get better gas mileage when I wanted and then get more power when I wanted to play. Anyone know any good ones I can buy? Thanks

There are 2 tuners available for the 3400, the DHP powrtuner (recently discontinued) and HPTuners. If you're going to use either you will need a good working knowledge of how they work or you could end up screwing up your car. However, with either you could tune the PCM to get a little more power or mileage given you know how to do it.

well I can work on older vehicles all day long but I don't know a whole lot about redoing a computer? Is it fairly simple as long as you understand the mechanics of a car or what? There isn't anything out that is like hypertec tuners for trucks where the diagnostics are already programmed?

Those are really your only two options aside from other gas mileage/performance mods. As long as you read up on the hptuner/powrtuner forums for a while you should be able to get a grasp on how to tune. A good mechanical knowledge of the car you're tuning is something you'll need and will help make sense of the tuning process.
Unfortunately there aren't any performance chip modifications and there isn't anything like a hypertec tuner out there for our cars.

Ok, well for 400 dollars is it worth buying that software or would I be better off going another route like a mass air flow sensor?

It's definitely worth the $400 once you learn to use it, don't waste your money on a new maf sensor unless the old one is bad for some reason. However, another option I neglected to mention is to purchase a preprogrammed PCM. You can buy them off Milzy motorsports, MP racing, and partsforyourcar.com for the DHP model.

HP Tuners allows you to edit every aspect of your pcu. Having said that, most of the things you will edit are tables. The air/fuel mixture, timing etc. I had originally gotten it when I boosted my ga, however after the complexity of the program, I sold it and left the tuning up to a guy here in rochester with a dyno who happens to specialize in GM vehicles and only tunes with HPT.
some tables have been made and are shared on their forums so you could just import them to the vehicle, but as mentioned, unless you know what you are doing, I would suggest refraining from trying it yourself. First thing you should do is get on their site and forums and see what kind of stuff you can find out for free before spending money
