Alright, as most of you know, I turbo'd my car this past summer and I am still trying to work on the tune with hp tuners but I can only do so much since GM decided to control our high rpm ve tables in alpha N instead of making things a million times easier and controling them in speed density. I am to the point where I am looking into doing a 00-01 ecm swap so I can use the s/c reflash but I need your opinions and help. I already have an ecm lined up and main harness as well but I know I need more than that. Since my car is a 97, it used the 4t60e unlike the newer ga's which use the 4t40e. Does anyone know if these two transmissions use the same connectors? Also, I am pretty sure that I am going to need to switch to the newer gauge cluster and all the wiring as well but am not possitive. I am also looking for information reguarding the bcm used in the newer cars since I do not have one.

So heres what I need so far:
-00-01 ECM
-main engine harness with all connectors
-BCM?
-00-01 Guage cluster?

Please give me some input guys and let me know if there is anything I'm missing. Thanks!

Brandon

The 99+ BCM is separate. Your BCM is part of the PCM. That's a big issue, and for that reason (and all the other dozens of differences you'll find... harnesses, connectors, injector impedance, etc) I wouldn't attempt it. Running a standalone would actually be easier at that point.

Do you have any pics of the turbo installed? I would also like to know what you all have in it for components? Thanks,

Dustin

you build a megasquirt from scratch for the most part.

The tec3 tends to come with everything you need. Leaving you to mounting it up, wiring it into your sensors, and setting up a trigger wheel then tuning for hours on end you go.

I see a lot of people on jbody.org screwing up with megasquirt and only a small handful getting it working right.

But in general most people on jbody.org don't have a clue how to tune their cars in the first place, even when given the tools to do it right.

megasquirt can be bought built but most people with no electronic backround get cheap without knowing what they are getting themselves into

Megasquirt
Pros: cheap, constantly improving features
Cons: DIY so electronics knowledge required

TEC3:
Pros: already made, lots of support
Cons: expensive, still need some electronics knowledge to install/run

Both are versatile products. Some people say to go right to the Tec3 if you can afford it, but personally I though the Megasquirt was more appealing to me. The Tec3 is certainly nice... but it isn't bug-free either. Chris (95 TurboQuad) was having all kinds of IAC problems last summer. Said he was waiting for a software patch from Electromotive to fix it.
