If the weather is fine, the GA might even make it :) ... regardless, I should be able to be there :)
On a side note, the show looks disappointing being it is advertising the same stuff as last year ... also, can't remember for sure but I think, the price went up too
JMILLS

I couldn't care less about the show quite frankly, I just like to use it as a firm date. So much easier then throwing dates back and forth. If we skip the show I wouldn't feel bad, lol.
sunrunner_pei
01-08-2008, 06:52 AM
I too don't care about the show, but it'd be cool to do the show if Evan makes the trek this year. I think he'd really get a kick out of it.
JMILLS
01-08-2008, 03:06 PM
Yeah, I bet he would like it. And I can go for traditions sake. I really don't care one way or another, I will just be happy to be in Canada and out of Cell Range... lol. Might bring my friend Connor again this year, haven't decided yet.

Alright, booked time off work, trying to book flights now... Looks like I will likely get in on Thursday the 17th around 2300hrs and leave Monday the 21st around 0615hrs.
What hotel do we usually stay at?
sunrunner_pei
01-10-2008, 11:42 AM
We've been staying at the Delta Beauséjour the last few years. Kelly usually gets us a discounted rate.

Alright, my flights are booked. I make it in at 2205 on the 17th and leave at 0700 on the 21st.
How far is the Delta from the airport? Any public transportation (bus, shuttle, etc) options available?
Is Kelly going to make the reservations at the Delta again this year? ;) If anybody would like to share a room I'm up for it...
sunrunner_pei
01-10-2008, 01:19 PM
The airport isn't too far away. I'm sure one of us can transport ya if need be. :)
I'll see if I can get in touch with Kel tonight about the rooms. :)

I actually liked the place we stayed at the first year with the Suites. Living Room and bedroom. The Delta's decent, but the name sounds too fancy for the rooms, lol.
For me, it's just a room. As long as there is a bathroom and a bed and a TV I'm good.

For reference, here are a couple of the nicish places where I could get us fairly cheap reservations:
Midtown Motel & Suites (2.5 stars)
http://www.atyp.com/midtown
I can get a one bedroom suite with kitchen for $100 or a regular suite for $69 a night.
Amsterdam Inn (3.5 stars)
http://www.amsterdaminns.com
I can get regular rooms for $75 a night there.
Econo Lodge (3 stars)
http://www.choicehotels.ca/hotels/hotel?hotel=CN662
I can get rooms for $78 a night.
Just for Shawn: Country Inn & Suites By Carlson - Moncton (3.5 stars)

Regular room $89, one bedroom suite $104.

OK, my contact at the Delta is "no more" :( (the company she works for no longer has an association with Delta which SUCKS!!!) ... anyway, I looked in the Country Inn and can get a King Size room for $90 (well, $89 something) which I think is really decent so I will make some reservations there unless there are any objections :) ... so, how many do we need? ... I need a king size, I assume Jason and Beth will want a king, Shawn and Karen for another king (or would you prefer two doubles in case Evan comes?) and finally one for Ben?? ... anyone else??
JMILLS
01-14-2008, 08:27 PM
I might be looking for two doubles if they have it. We might be bringing Connor with us and he would have to stay in our room, unless Ben wants a roomate he's never met... lol.
Gimli
01-14-2008, 08:37 PM
Actually, if Jason's friend doesn't mind shelling for the difference ($15 a night) I could take the one-bedroom suite and he'd have a sofa-bed to sleep on. This way we also get a comfortable living room type place to play games and all.
Otherwise a king room will work for me :)
BTW we WILL need a projector. By the looks of it, they have 13" TVs in the rooms!
JMILLS
01-15-2008, 03:54 PM
I'd shell out the difference for the privacy... lol. But that sounds like it might work out. I will provide a projector one way or another... future shop's security isn't that good ...:P If I remember correctly the TV's didnt have any RCAs or anything but were a decent size. Thats where we were staying when I "rented" the converter from Radio Shack and ended up getting burnt on the currency conversion rate.

Well, I have to say they did have very clear signs saying they had a weight limit of 275 every time I went, and I am clearly not 275, so maby they are starting to stick to their rules.... or maby he just happened to go when the boss was working or something, we might get lucky and get someone that just dosent give a shit and let us all ride... or maby like Ben is implying, we will just scare them into letting us race !

They actually will WEIGH you now if they 'think' you're over ... I told them that they should either abide by the rules or not and make up their mind as it was quite apparent that I didn't hurt any car the last several times I was there, plus, had almost the fastest times so their idea where their cars can't handle the extra weight is BS

Sorry guys ... direct to the point, I am not overly interested in partying at Dan's house (no offence intended, Dan, as you know I like you guys a bunch and it is nothing personal) ... it is just that I can party at someone's house RIGHT HERE without feeling like I am imposing (I know I was invited but I still can't help but feel like a burden, that is just the way I am) ... and I had no idea that any one of you were actually staying there until yesterday which is why I booked the Hotels (yeah, you probably decided that afterwards which is OK so I'll just cancel them, no worries) but you all must have been discussing this between yourselves being there is now mention of you showing up on Thursday which was a first for me ... anyway, not trying to be dramatic here fellas (you know me better than that) but this is what I see happening, you'll show up at 12:00 to McDonalds, then we'll go to the Car Show after which you'll probably say 'lets head back to Dan's for a rest and we'll meet you guys later' or whatever ... then we meet up for Supper and then we'll all head back to Dan's for drinks which of course means either Paula or I can't partake because we'll have to drive back to the hotel (I don't leave my car or truck anywhere that I am not) so what is the fun in that?? ... not trying to lessen the party atmosphere, be a pain in the ass or to cause anyone to have less of a good time just because I am a 'stick in the mud' but I am just being honest and telling you how I feel ... seriously, I am not upset at anyone and have no ill will or grudge because of this but that the same time, I am just thinking ahead and maybe just feeling a little left out ... is that your fault, not really as I am spent my entire life not overly fitting in with others but at the same time, I don't have to intentionally attend events that I can visualize not working out to be a style that I 'like'.
Regardless, I think that I will just head up early Saturday morning and head back Saturday night after supper (most likely by myself as it is Paula's birthday and she doesn't want to spend the entire day in car but understands that I love seeing you guys so it is worth it for me) ... again, sorry for sounding pathetic but since this is not the only 'sad' situation happening in my life over the past couple days, my spirits aren't at their highest level.

99GrandAMSE
01-30-2008, 04:12 PM
... I love to hang around, Jason, but sometimes, I don't get 'told' where the hanging is going to be ;) ... seriously, maybe it is more so not being in the right place at the right time, who knows and quite frankly, who cares :( ... it is no big deal, really, it is life and I am used to it because like I said above, I literally have spent my entire life not fitting in with people and their party's  ... anyway, I probably shouldn't have typed this openly and just kept in bottled inside (like always) but felt you guys deserved to know that I am not intentionally avoiding you but instead it is how I am and that my "partying skills" when it comes to doing everything that other people do, is lacking making it appear like I am anti-social ... is that right or wrong?? ... I don't know and as long as I don't cause a damper to be put on everyone else's fun because of my feelings then I am happy ... thanks for your comments though :)

Ditto here... I just figured since I live here that I would offer up some of our free space to people who would be traveling here to help to save some money (need to save as much as possible for Albany right :P ). Certainly didn't intend to make you feel left out at all, or to put any kind of a damper on your own fun. I hope you still make it up, and at least come over and see the house, it has changed A-LOT since the day you were here and it was all in grey primer !!
Anyway, too bad Paula is not coming, but if its her birthday, I can definitely understand that, you just better bring her back some fudge from one of those booth's at the car show to make up for being gone all day :P Trina will miss chatting with her, at least Beth & Karren will be here so she has someone besides a bunch of car guys to talk to :)

Hey guys.. We were thinking on coming up again in April Possibly.. I know we all dont know eachother that well yet, but we really had a good time. The car show just isnt our thing.. I mean dont get me wrong, we went to the moncton nationals, the balloon festival car show in sussex, etc.. I attended all the boardwalk car shows in the city last summer every tuesday night, I just cant justify wasting 50 bucks or more for the car show when its the same old crap for the past 5 years. But we wouldnt mind going out for supper with you guys if we came up this time.. This year we could plan to NOT have a BBQ at the house.. We actually moved to St.George since we last talked to you guys.. Sold our house in Quispamsis and moved back to Charlotte COunty where Im originally from.. Bought a 6 year old house with a garage upstairs AND a garage in the basement.. VERY EXCITING!!! Every car enthusiasts dream hahaha.. So anyways, we'll know more closer to april on whether or not we'll be attending, but as of now, Id like to again. IF theres no snow, Ill bring the grand am out of the basement and if not, I guess well be bring the dakota which Kelly, you would love to see being a dakota man yourself lol. Recently just undertook a facelift with a 2tone paint job, black and silver, 6 inches of lift, 35 inch mickey thompsons and stacks.. yeah, thats right, stacks! The husband is going a little off lol. But yeah, Id love to see you guys all again and get to know yas a little better. Last year was a little weird for us because we didnt really know anyone and I just havent been writing alot on this site.. I wish I could more but have been Busy Busy Busy! Hopefully we can get to know you guys better.. and its too bad everyone didnt live closer, we could of done a house tour, BBQ at everyones home.. Including yours Kelly!!!! I can understand where youre coming from seeing how you want to go away and want to get a hotel, its the whole intentions on "getting away" and at the same time, I can understand everyone elses point of view in wanting to save a buck.. this day and age you got to.. Luckily we're 20 mins from the Calais border so we get gas over there at a whomping 85 cents a litre! WOOT!!! and groceries too which would run 300 or more up here and goes no more than 150 over there.. So yeah, sorry to rant, just updates I guess.. Hope everyone is well!! Maybe we'll see you guys in April!

Oh and everyone is FAIRLY close together.. I mean why dont we make more meets for a day meet in Moncton throughout the year??? Shawn and Kelly are fairly close to moncton, dan lives there and we're about 2 hours away, well maybe more like 3 I guess.. Like today we're on our way to Moncton to meet my old roomate and her bf.. Havent seen her in 5 years or more so we're headed to Montana's for supper.. mmmm.. and who cant go to Moncton without hitting up Princess Auto?? ALready got dads wish list in hand and his cash too!!! hahaha.. Thats the life of being a garage owners daughter,, anywheres you go, he has something he needs picked up.. But yeah, again, sorry to go on and on and on lol.. But we could probably make a couple extra meets a year. maybe every couple months or something??

the few meets in a year thing has been attempted before, people just cant get the time off / money to be traveling around.... Especially when it costs 40 bucks in tools just to get off PEI!
we were not ignoring you, I guess we all just know the answer / how it will work out to try and schedule more meets
See ya in April !
Oh, not sure if we will be going to the show either... its alot of money to see the same cars again (we, as in, myself and Trina)

Hey Christina, calm down there ;):)
I don't think anyone was ignoring you specifically, actually, there was a great number of other posts in here that I, for one, didn't directly reply or comment on either :( ... anyway, sorry if you felt you were being ignored as that is not the case ... for me, I have just been too busy to read every post in detail but I am looking forward to getting this weather over and getting the car out :) ... I really hope NOT to have the Dakota much longer as I am getting tired of it being how much trouble it gave me for the first year I owned it ... not really sure what else I will get as a replacement but might look at an AWD car or a smaller version 4x4 mainly to save a little on fuel costs :)

Im sorry, maybe i jumped in there but it just seems like anytime i write something, thers no response.. anyhoo, as far as the dakota goes, i might suggest a JET superchip. I bought derek the stage 2 one for xmas and it made a HUGE improvement.. more horsepower, and less gas! We drove from Rothesay to st george which is 100kms in 4 wheel drive the entire way in one storm and it burned an 1/8 of a tank!

It's basically a weekend long meet, everyone usually meets up at the mc donalds on saturday I think...?, then the meet just kinda "goes with the flow" people go check into hotels, etc, then usually hook back up at the car show, go out to dinner, go hangout somewhere, etc... its a pretty good time !

Also, if you go to http://www.speedsporteast.com/ they have updated with this years info, and I noticed a new link to a "Printable map to the moncton colliseum" well, if you click on that, check out the credit at the bottom left of the map, thats one of my creations! :)

I'm scared of boats ...
Hello strangers.
I was driving the other day and saw a message saying that the car show was this weekend. My first thought was, hey, I wonder is the old crew is coming up. By reading this thread, well I guess so. So, please tell me what the plan is, is it as usual, meet at the MacDonalds at 12:00 noon? on the saturday?
Now as you all know I don't have my car anymore, it died, but I do have a shinny Silver ich 2001 toyota corolla? I hope you don't mind I come. Well, I'm coming anyways, if Kelly can bring his truck, then I can come with my Toyota.
Also, I don't drink at all, so if anyone needs a ride anywhere, please let me know and I will be your taxi. It would be my pleasure. And for the people that are going that I haven't already met, the offer goes to you as well.
Please let me know what the plans are and I'm in.
Salut!!!
P.S. I went drag racing for the first time last year, yes with my Corolla, and yes, I was the slowest one there, but I can tell you one thing for sure, I bet I was the only car there that could drive up to Miramichi from Moncton, drage 14 times down the track and drive back and still do over 35 miles per gallon, hahahahaha!!!!!!

Uh oh.... I don't think those two people are allowed to co-exsist.... lol
Almost had to cancle my trip yesterday. Got a call from my father and was told that my Grandfather passed away on Friday. We weren't the closest, and he was technically my Step-Grandfather (if such a thing exsists) but I was still going to be there for the family if needed. Luckily everything is being taken care of and the services are not until May. So I can still make it to Canada... yay.
Can't wait.

On a related note, my GA is gonna look like shit for the week. The weather has not been co-operating and it hasn't been washed or waxed all winter. Hell, I've still got the winter rims/tires on it. Not sure how much I'm going to have time to do before the meet. So if it looks terrible it's not my fault. ;)

OK, to be completely honest, I was really considering changing my mind and coming up Friday night, but unfortunately, that isn't in the cards due to the fact I simply can't afford the extra hotel cost ... so, that leaves me with 'possibly' staying Saturday night but it might just not be worth the expense ... not sure yet though, still contemplating ... anyway, enough drama, I do plan on coming but it more than likely won't be until Saturday around noon (as we used to do ;)) and it may be just a quick trip to say hello, hopefully get my odometer changed over (I still haven't been able to catch up with the guy yet so not sure when that will happen), maybe see the car show and eat/chat for a bit, then head back home ... sorry for not being there fellas and for making what you may feel as a 'big deal' out of things but with this type of situation, it is just the way it is with me (not specifically anyone's fault but my own, I know) ... regardless, hope you guys have a good time Friday night and you should see me sometime on Saturday, just not completely sure when or for how long :)

Ahhh, cool. There was a car a similar color to yours that passed Karen & I a few times on the way to Moncton on Friday evening, and it ended up getting pulled over in Cap Pele. I asked because that same car was parked at Walmart when we arrived, just across the isle from where we were all parked.

Edit: I want your recipe for spaghetti sauce you were telling me....
Recipe? Real chefs don't use no recipe!
Hang on that'll be painful because I have no idea about the quantities I use so I'll go by Costco-size. Hopefully your local Costco has the same size containers we have around here :D
One of their large ground beef containers. They usually sell for 20-23 bucks around here. I guess it's about 5-8 pounds.
A dozen pack of hot italian sausage.
2 three-packs of pepperoni (the large 1.5-2" wide type, not the small jerky style).
1 large spanish onion.
2 garlic cloves (or equivalent quantity of de-hydrated sliced garlic, which is what I use).
4 large yellow or green sweet peppers.
2 large containers of fresh mushrooms.
About a half-pound of whatever fresh hot peppers the local market happens to have. Habaneros are good but jalapenos can do too :D
6 ~700ml cans of plain tomato sauce.
3-4 ~700ml cans of either diced or crushed plain tomatoes
2-4 small cans of tomato paste (I like to make it very thick for freezing then I add one 700ml can of plain tomato sauce for each pint of frozen sauce when I prepare it).
1/2 teaspoon curry.
1 teaspoon red hot chili pepper.
In a large pot (mine is 5 or 6 gallons I think), brown the diced onion and crushed garlic in a little bit of oil or butter for about one minute then add the ground beef. While the beef is cooking, microwave the italian sausage until fully cooked. Cut the italian sausage in bite-size (about 1/3 of a inch) slices and add to coocked ground beef. Cut pepperoni in bite-size (I like to cut it in quarters on the lenght and then in 1/2 inch slices) and add to the rest of the meat. Add the tomato sauce and diced/crushed tomatoes and bring to boil. Add diced/sliced vegetables (including hot peppers) and the rest of the spices and let simmer for about two hours. Add tomato paste as necessary to make a nice thick sauce. I usually add whatever hot sauce I have on hand, usually about a tablesppon of Dave's Ultimate Insanity sauce, unless I have fresh habanero peppers in the sauce, in which case I use about 200ml of regular Tabasco sauce. Remember that you'll dilute the thick sauce with plain tomato sauce when you prepare it for serving so make sure it's hot enough in it's raw state.

Wow... now that sounds like a wicked sauce !!!
and it would be easy to make in a low fat version to fit in my diet as well... just leave out the pepperoni and use the super low fat sausage you can also get at costso, and boil them to remove the bit fo fat that is in them! :)
Thanks!

True. I find nuking the sausage also leaves me with most of the fat just melted at the bottom of the container I nuke them in while keeping most of the flavour in the sausage (which I think is the downside with boiling, you lose a lot of the flavour).
