It really depends what is on there. If its crud from the road then a diluted simple green solution will work. If its brake dust then just get some brake dust cleaner. Might take some elbow grease but itll come off.

Probably because they got brake dust and a bunch of crap on them like you said in your first post.

Why don't you ask your uncle. He might know what you might have just sittin around to get them lookin clean?

Its very important to know what the material is.
If its polished aluminum then your in for some elbow greese and alot of time.

I do detailling cars in a professional shop.

If they turn kinda yellow-brown, it's brake dust. Use acid with a spong and clean them one after one. Pur acid may domage your wheels if you leave it too much longer on them. Carefull

If they're kinda oilly, painted use thinner. use gloves with thinner ^^

Beware though, some wheels HATE cleaners.

try mothers fx wheel cleaner, it works good on my wheels just spray this stuff wait a minute and use a small soft brush and it will clean them up in a hurry.

How are they a waste of money? Some stains don't come off with just soap and water.

If it wont come off with soap, water and a little scrubbing then a wheel cleaner wont get it off either.

try the Eagle 1 wheel and tire cleaner, or alluminum wheel cleaner.
