I need to get new heads and I need to know if I have AIR air injector reactor system. It is an option when ordering heads. Looks like there are 3 types at Auto Zone, 1 with 8mm rocker bolts, another with 10mm rocker bolts and with or without AIR system. I cant see this in the manual I am using so I dont know what to look for. Is the AIR system something for california emmisions or what.
Is there a way to look up my VIN to get exact specs?

The air pump is in front of the coolant reservoir. If that same pump is present on yours, you have the AIR system. There would also be small (~1/2") tubing running along the heads.

It can only be found on 2000 3400's. Basically just pumps air into exhaust to reduce emissions. Here:

thats interesting, never really knew they existed. Why is it only on 2000 g.a.'s. That article says the system was invented in the 60's so why wouldnt my 99 have one or 2001 on up g.a.'s

It's anyone's guess why GM choose to add it for the 2000 model, then discontinue the following year. As for the technology being from the 60's, it doesn't mean it is necessary to use it on all vehicles to meet emission standards... similar to the way EGR systems are not used on 2.3's and the later 2.4's.

My 2000 doesn't have it , i've heard it's used in places where emission requirements are more stringent .

Thanks all. I'm from Maryland and I think the car was purchased here. The heads actually have 2 ports in between the head number stamp, they are on and angle vs the head bolts which arent on an angle. The guy I talked to on the phone (selling the heads) helped me physically tell if I had the AIR system...I did but he thought it was weird that a Grand AM in MD would have it.

Every 2000 I've seen around here has it.
