I still don't understand why people tint their windshields. Stupid IMO.

i did it and i think it looks good. however my car didnt pass inspection and i had to peel it all off. your prolly gonna have to do the same, unless you have a different inspection rule in your state

nice96t, it is awesome and is not stupid. It looks and is way better having it tinted than from the factory. Like you said its what think so i am not arguing or anything But I do like your Mazda 3.
Warbeaver, we dont have inspection in Iowa so it is all good. I also am liking your car too. Also you got some lucky laws down in missouri. I am wanting to do 35 and 5 but that is the legal limit down there WAY NICE. I am liking the 15 and 5 sick.

i dont have to worrie about inspections in indiana, besides, black car, black tint, had to get the front window done... i didnt want people to look in... kinda dumb to do all the windows, then leave the windshield undone... what the heck is the point of doing all the windows and leaving it alone? its kinda like why stores that are open 24-7-365 have locks on the main door.

I agree with the way they look but I don't agree with tinting the windshield. Your visibility is reduced especially at night but I guess you will figure that out when you hit a dog or worse a kid because he was in the shadows and you didn't see it or him / her.

I agree cuts down visibility and cops will not be happy about that if you get pulled over

it is illegal to begin with and it'll be on your own mind when you hit and kill a person or animal because of poor visibilty due to lack of common sense.
i can completely understand tinting the front windshield because of sun exposure to super sensitive skin, like me. but the law here allows only a certain amount of INCHES that can me cover with tint

speeding is illegal, blah blah blah... sick of hearing it.... cops have pulled me over 4 times with the tint the way it is on my car and havent said anything, yes it cuts down visability, do i care no? do i drive stupid/crazy at night? no.... i cant see out a clear window at night anyways...
i can tell ya know ive hit plenty of small critters also in and out of my tinted car not much you can do reguardless if its tinted or not... sorry if im being mean but if you dont know what its like maybe you should come take a ride.

You say you were stopped 4 times and the officer didn't say anything about it? I find that hard to believe because according to your state's Vehicle and Traffic Law, All of your tinting is illegal
IC 9-19-19-4
Tinting, glazing, or sunscreening vehicle windows
Sec. 4. (a) This section does not apply to a manufacturer's tinting or glazing of motor vehicle windows or windshields that is otherwise in compliance with or permitted by FMVSS205 as promulgated in 49 CFR 571.205. Proof from the manufacturer, supplier, or installer that the tinting or glazing is in compliance with or permitted by FMVSS205 must be carried in the vehicle.
(b) This section does not apply to the driver of a vehicle:
(1) that is owned by an individual required for medical reasons to be shielded from the direct rays of the sun; or
(2) in which an individual required for medical reasons to be shielded from the direct rays of the sun is a habitual passenger.
The medical reasons must be attested to by a physician or optometrist licensed to practice in Indiana, and the physician's or optometrist's certification of that condition must be carried in the vehicle. The physician's or optometrist's certificate must be renewed annually.
(c) A person may not drive a motor vehicle that has a:
(1) windshield;
(2) side wing;
(3) side window that is part of a front door; or
(4) rear back window;
that is covered by or treated with sunscreening material or is tinted to the extent or manufactured in a way that the occupants of the vehicle cannot be easily identified or recognized through that window from outside the vehicle. However, it is a defense if the sunscreening material applied to those windows has a total solar reflectance of visible light of not more than twenty-five percent (25%) as measured on the nonfilm side and light transmittance of at least thirty percent (30%) in the visible light range.
(d) A person may not tint or otherwise cover or treat with sunscreening the parts of a vehicle described in subsection (c) so that operation of the vehicle after the tinting or sunscreening is performed is a violation of subsection (c). However, it is not a violation of this chapter if this work is performed for a person who submits a physician's or optometrist's statement as described in subsection (b) to the person who is to perform the work.
As added by P.L.2-1991, SEC.7. Amended by P.L.128-1995, SEC.1; P.L.12-2003, SEC.1.
I doubt you have a letter from a physician or optometrist licensed to practice in Indiana. If you did then you would have said that in the first place.

B. I know you've had your tint on your windshield for that long. I'm pretty sure I was around on here when you got it done. Till now I haven't heard anything negative come from it. Unfortunately it does decrease the visibility especially at night, and I know you will have agree with me on that even though you have it. Because you may be a cautious enough driver to be able to drive with tint on your windshield, doesn't mean that someone else can.
If someone, not you, but someone who had their windshield tinted ever did hit a person with their car, the lawsuit would be above and beyond!! This is also besides the point because someone would surely be quite injured from the accident. I'm sure the insurance company wouldn't look to kindly on finding out that the windshield had tint on it as well.

i think it all depends on how strictly enforced the law is in certain counties/states. i mean shoot...i pass just one statie that has an itch for anythign he knows illegal and i get a huge fine. i pass other staties and not one second glance. and...it is possible the type of officer

i know it cuts it down, ive said that in this thread... the fact he thinks im lying about having not been ticketed or anything mentioned about it gets under my skin. i dont like being called a liar or suggested that i am lying. dont beleive me thats fine, i dont care, call me a liar and its over.
ive driven the car all over and not just indiana, but ill, st. louis, ohio, pen, west v, washington dc.... nooooo cops have said anything to me....

well if you have like 5% tint on your windows and you are from FL and in MA visiting, i doubt you'd get pulled over only because your plate says FL and the car is registered in FL so therefore your tint is legal, know what i mean? i am only going by what ive been told by previous situations

01-14-2008, 10:10 AM
ok, it looks good but are you going to drive it?
even with my driver/passenger windows tinted to 15% it was a little dicey at night, I couldnt imagine my front window, that is a little ridiculous IMO

Except for the badging on the door, your GA looks identical to mine. The black paint just makes the tint look that much darker.

the tint on the windshield looks much MUCH darker then you say it is. i thought you had like 20% but 50% in person looks like theres nothing there. it's got to be the angle and the time of day

Looks good Jblack16. Im still thinking about tinting my windsheild. I was going to do 50% aswell. But then again i dont want to be pulled over for having tint on my front windsheild and then get busted for have 5% all around. But i dont think 50% shows all that well during the day light. Im still debating on if i should do it or not.

It's stupid because it's unsafe, especially at night.
But I guess your car looking cool, is more important than maybe someone's life right?

How nice. You can't see out a clear window at night so go ahead and make it worst by tinting it...
Yeah why should you care if it cuts down visability, you'll still be alive after you run over someone crossing the road at night right?
Big deal, I've been stopped 4 times and haven't got a ticket for my over due inspection. However my inspection isn't a possible endanger to anyones life.

Ok first of all It looks a lot darker than you say but like it was mentioned earlier, it's prob the angle and the color of the car that gives it that appearance.
I went to CDL school in Indianapolis for 3 weeks and have seen how much of a dick the cops can be, of course that's going back 10 years now and things may have changed. My comment was gaged from the way things were 10 years ago, things are prob different now. I'm sorry for that but I still totally disagree with tinting the windshield on a car that is driven on the road, especially at night. I will agree it does look good though. I'm concerned about a comment you made earlier that also got under my skin but didn't say anything about it I just hope you are not driving the car at night because that statement enforces my opposition to the tint.
You say you are a "Professional" driver and
It's very difficult to see that through your "cocky" attitude. I say this do to statements like...
and
in the 20 years of driving under my belt (1/2 million miles if you must know) I have only hit 2 squirrels and one bird (the bird shouldn't count because it flew into my windshield) Keep in mind that I do not swerve or jamb on the brakes if an animal runs out in front of me. I'm always watching for anything that may run out in front of me when I'm driving down the road. If I see something I get ready to avoid hitting what ever it is, it's a part of defensive driving that you will learn as you get more miles under your belt, and position my vehicle so I don't hit it. I'm sure there should be some frogs and small turtles added to that list.
My point here is this...
I like the way the car looks but I disagree with it do to the safety of you and others on the road whether be in a car or on foot or someone's pet.
I have to fully agree with Darrin here. By your posts you are acting like a selfish arrogant child. You are making it clear you don't give a shit about the lives of others as long as your car looks cool that is all that matters. "Professional driver" makes me laugh. Why? Because even "Professional Drivers" have accidents, it doesn't excluded you from anything.
As far as driving I personally rate myself above everyone else, I'm trained for survival on the road. When I ride, scanning the road isn't just because I'm motoring some brats to school, it's because if I don't I will die. I do the same thing when I drive, it's instinct now. However just because I am a better driver doesn't mean I'm going to drive around and intentionally impair my vision. Bad enough when making sharp turns its hard for me to see out myside windows at night with 35% tint, I'm not going to be a fool and tint the windshield too.

I would HIGHLY recommend tinting the windshield Tom, it would make your car look even better than it is now even though it is still the top of my list for nice GA's. What do you have for tint on the side windows anyways? When i got it done way back in October, I didn't know why I didn't get it done when I first got my tint for the other windows. I did want the strip when I got it done at first but I didn't tell them so they didnt so I was kind of angry with myself but am glad i didnt have it done, windshield is better. Also it makes my windows look darker since its not letting light in through the front windshield.
Wow, didnt know this thread was going to get out of hand like this. :???:

I think everyone has said their piece. I see no more point in keeping it open, as everyone is just re-stating the same arguments over and over.
Guys, come on. Attack the idea, not the poster if you object to something. :(
EDIT: Sorry bud, it looks like you were posting at the same time I was. Sorry about that. But I still see no need to keep the thread open.
