Well, I think I forgot to post this up here, but some lady ran into my 2003 Mazda Miata LS (the black-on-black one) as an early Xmas present to me :(
However, my insurance company was more than happy to pay me WAY more than I owed on it, and with the extra cash I stashed some away for when my insurance rates will inevitable go through the roof. The rest, I used a down payment towards a 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata (it has a turbo, woo)

(can anyone spot my old Grand Am GT lurking in the background :D - Id be lying if I said I didnt miss it, but the rear-wheel drive, tight steering, 6 speed transmission, turbocharger, short shifter, convertible top, extra supportive seats, and tiny footprint of the Miata ease the pain in record time - plus look at how pretty this car is)
PS: those 17'' rims are coming off the car ASAP, Ill be replacing those damnable boat anchors with something a more reasonable size, and mostly likely half the weight (they weigh in at 18lbs each IIRC)

Eh, sorry not a fan of them. Too young or wrong gender maybe why they don't appeal to me. j/k However my mother always wanted one ever since she go rid of her '66 MGB. Man I miss that little brit car.

John, MGBs are <3
The Mazda Miata was actually designed to be nearly identical to the Lotus Elan (the older Miatas anyways) - and from there Mazda always had the intention of harking back to the days of the tiny british roadsters (they even designed the transmissions in such a way that the gears engage with a 'snick' sound to emulate the gearboxes of roadsters of yesteryear.)
Thanks for the compliments, guys - my plans for this car are as follows:
scanguageII
boost guage
sway bars/endlinks/aggressive alignment
lighter and smaller wheels (16'' most likely, possibly a set of 15''- no more than 12lb/wheel)
full intake replacement, possibly a larger intercooler
manual boost controller
bigger downpipe/catless midpipe/lightweight muffler
better bypass/recirc valve
tune
bigger injectors, new plugs/wires
piggyback or full replacement ECU
new turbo/manifold
tune again
That should keep me busy for about 3 years, factory warranty runs out june of this year ^.^

Alot of the newer cars do that now too. My G5 (When its not wrecked...) made that snicking noise on the gear change.

Awesome car. My buddy used to race one. Those wheels are nice though, don't discredit them to early. They aren't that heavy compared to the majority of wheels their size, and when you goto a smaller wheel it looks kinda lacking from experience. There are two major brands of piggyback ECU you can go with, the complication in modding the engine is it's preset fuel cutoff which used to be a hassle to remove. My buddy was involved in them when they first hit the market, but upgraded to a Cobalt SS/SC when they came out. Go check out the MX5 forum for good pointers about the car, it's a pretty particular platform. Side note though, be careful when you call it a Miata... it's an MX5.
They are huge so I will hot link them...

Well as far as piggyback - I can do XEDE or Greddy's EManage, but the better way to go is use the 'Hydra Nemesis' standalone for tuning with injectors bigger than 350cc IIRC.
Both the early fuel cut off and the boost cut off are problematic, but they are there to act as a failsafe for both the engine and the stock turbo (since the stock IHI turbo unit is not known for its high power or high reliability - Mazda implemented these systems to make sure the turbo would last longer than the warranty period) - although I know a few guys that run 11-13psi on the stock unit without a problem, its mostly about proper tuning and repecting the equipment.
As far as the old Miata v MX-5 debate - ORIGINALLY the NA6C/NA8 models were called 'Roadster' in japan/europe, and Miata/MX-5 in US/Australia. The NB models were still called Roadster in Japan/Europe, but then in the US/Australia they tried to implement JUST the MX-5 moniker, to no avail - most cars were still being called the 'MX-5 Miata' in that order.
The 04-05 Mazdaspeed model is the first one in America to ever come with JUST the MX-5 badge, no mention of miata anywhere on it (they REALLY tried to toughen up the image, still to no avail - still a 'girls/gays car') - then with the introduction of the NC model, Im fairly sure they are calling it the MX-5 everywhere now, no more mention of the Miata (except by miata enthusiasts who know it'll always be a Miata no matter what the badge says)
This new NC model has probably made the furthest progress in trying to get rid of the gays/girls car stigma that has plagued the little Roadster since its introduction in America. (Its almost JUST the US market that really feels this way, most other markets see the Miata as a performance roadster, not a hairdresser's daily commuter)
Either way, it doesn't bother me, I call it a Miata or a Roadster, depending on who I am talking to. I never really liked the MX-5 moniker, since it stems from the MX-3 and MX-6 cars, both of which I do not particularly like.

Oh sorry aboot that, I missed your question up there. I have sold the car lcoally to my good friend who paid me 1000 for it, despite the fact that it needs the following repairs:
new shifter linkages
new a/c condenser
fuel filter
brake fluid
coolant
heatercore
tie rod ends
door locks
shifter bushing
and the list goes on.
Suffice to say, I dont miss having to fix that car

I think I like them, but ever since my mother-in-law said she wanted them I always thought of them as mid life crisis woman cars.

It's ok, most people have the same preconceived notions about this little roadster - only women or gay old men drive these cars, apparently.
I'm in the minority b^.^b
