the big piece that attached to a 2000 GA door where the door meets the rest of the car. haha im sure i lost you all there. but is it the motor or actuator? what happened was my lock and unlock stopped working for the passenger door. i cant even manually unlock it. after my step dad and i looking around at it, we decided it was the whole motor. after looking it up, idk which i need because there are 2 different things that came up.

this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2000-00-GRAND-AM-ALERO-Door-Lock-Actuator-Motor-RH_W0QQitemZ300164277475QQcmdZViewItem)

one site that I have had lot of success with would be autoanything.com. NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THEM WHEN COMING TO PARTS. You could also check your local junkyard for cheap parts you may need. There is no part number for the black sticky stuff. You don't even need it on there, but it is just there for extra protection. I have had this before on my first ga it was just the motor that had to be replaced

On these cars thats the whole latch, lock and actuator. Its all one unit.

what happened was my lock and unlock stopped working for the passenger door. i cant even manually unlock it.

My rear door would not lock and I found that the latch/lock mechanism was seized up. Maybe your problem is a electrical solenoid too but it should work manually if the solenoid was bad.

I sprayed some WD40 everywhere and kept working the rods to get them freed up. When they were loose, I used real oil and grease to coat everything that moved.

Squirting lube into the latches should be part of the yearly maintenance on these cars.
