I drove my Achieva for 186,000 miles and until it cost more to fix than it was worth. I expect to do the same with the Grand Am.

Until they stop selling gasoline.
Even then, however...

Probably about four more years. I plan to drive the GA through college, and then get something a little newer (maybe a newer GA :P) after college. :)

thats what im talking about lol but looking back the cost of the warrenty is about what it would have cost to buy a scrap engine and have it installed! tranny another issue but still....
not sure exactly, couldnt tell ya, not until I pay it off thats for sure lol but even still, maybe until its 10yrs old....maybe longer....maybe till the engine blows....maybe put in another
its always on my mind though, well its worth this much now....hmmmm....but would I rather keep it....hmmmm.....should I have bought the grand prix lol....hmmm....love my GA though, to the bone
peace

Well when I am finished fixing up this car in the spring I will be starting another project but this time it will be a 4x4 of some kind I will probably start with a newer jeep TJ but I will still be keeping my Ga the Jeep ill be for towing my boat around and for winter driving and the Grand Am will be just for summer driving because im finding it very hard to drive on unplowed roads with the car  I will probably keep the GA for at least a few more years

Now! This is the end of an era for me. After 8 years, 160,000 kM, 3500 engine hours, it's time I get to part from it. Numerous parts have been replaced ( 1 transmission, 3 rack & pinion, 3 RH front bearings, front dics brakes and pads every year and so on). It has withstand use and abuse of everyday traffic city and highway. I will miss the 230 kM/h + rides on desert higways, but not the hughe operating cost of repairs and espacially fuel. At $1.17 / liters CAD or $4.42/ USG, at this time of year, it's actually -27 C here, I can bearly make it to 350 kM or 220 mi with a full tank. Although, it is a great performer, smooth rider and has very nice sound, all wrapped in a nice convenient environment, it's realibility, overall, is a little scary at times.
I have countless memories attached with this car, some of which I'd like to go with it.
Thanks to this forum that permitted me to fully enjoy my GAGT.
For guys, and girls that own a GAGT, best of luck in your enhavior. If you apply a few simple tricks, this GA will last you a long time and for those of you that intend to keep it until the engine dies, well, unless you do not change the oil and/or overheat the engine, be very patient!
So long cyber friends
I've had my GA for just about 7 years, 102000+KM's and it is still going.... It has loads of character features at its age, but I might swap it for somethign newer this year, who knows though, anytime I talk about getting rid of it, she cleans up her act for a bit again

Not sure. I really like the car (2.2L SE, 5-spd manual), but my conscience keeps nagging me to get
something bigger and safer for my kids' sake. If it were just me riding in it, I'd keep it till fuel economy for medium to large cars goes up to ~55 mpg (without having to pay for a hybrid or worry about batteries)

How long do you plan on keeping your GA?
Till the wheels fall off.Possibly longer.
I figure, rather than spend $30K (plus interest) on a decently used/new RWD speed machine,I'll just make a rocket out of the car I got. For a lot less $$.

These cars are crap, I have had mine for a week and hate it, they need wayy toooo much mechanic work, I paid $500 for my whip, and I am going to drive it until it doesnt drive anymore.

It's worth 2500 according to kbb, my roomate works at a car dealership, they paid 200 for the trade in.
My GA is in perfect shape for its year, it need a little work, but is in better shape than most, and I still hate it.

Wanted to drive it til I retire. Probably another 5 years. But I have enough in upgrades that even the motor giving out won't stop me. I like the GA for my DD and have another fun car for after that. I am putting on about 18000 miles per year and don't want to use up the new car. Keep up with brakes, front bearings, and oil changes (and the LIM for you V6 guys) and many people are getting 200000 miles plus. Still much cheaper than another new car payment.

2000 - Getting pretty bored of it so either till it dies which could be soon or after college when i can afford a better car.
1994 - I'm going to keep this going as long as I can. Will fix motor problems or drop in new engines. Only thing that will make me get rid of it is if it gets unibody damage. In that case I will take the motor and drop in in a fiero probably.

until it dies. Come spring/summer i'll be putting more money into it and make it a lot more irresistible to give up.

until the motor dies! Then maybe I'll swap in a 350 and rear wheel drive. Look on You Tube for the Betty racer it makes me want the motor to die today
type it is as one word "the bettyracer "and it should come up

well I know I just bought my car in July 07, it only has 53,500 miles on the original motor and its ONLY a 2000, and I had many plans for it, but I've been thinking and I think im gonna sell it in two years and buy a Cobalt turbocharged so theres no reason to waste my money.

until i die. or my kids crash it or ruin it. i dont ever plan on buying another new car ever again, its a painful process and the only thing that made it worthwile is i hardly ever drive it. otherwise it would have like 120,000 miles on it now and id have to start all over again. its really pointless. the way i see it, if its all paid for, why get rid of it?

How long do you plan on keeping your GA?
I came to this cross roads late January 2007 - when a lady blew through a red at way above the limit, and literally bent my car...
I would think that my final reaction would be an idication of what I will do.
I will keep this car untill it is rotten beyond repair, or written off... in which case I will search for another, or buy either a Calais442, or Acheiva SCX.
I have driven much more expensive to operate cars before... I need an econimical 4cylinder car that I can have fun in.
Quad4HO = fun & good gas mileage
Grand Am* = small enough that a 4cylinder can move it, big enough to fit 4 people.
* = same to be said for Calais 442 or Acheiva SCX
I am not interested in a bigger car, because it provides no more saftey than a car of this size.
I am not interested in a smaller car, becasue the room is comprimised - the only smaller car I would consider buying is a Fiero (and even that car would require a Quad4 swap).

As long as possible. So until he dies or breaks so badly it's not worth it to fix.

I plan on keeping mine until i can afford a TA so probably all thru trade school and then some but even when i can get the Trans Am ill probably keep it for the winter. Really though GAs are great cars theyre pretty good on gas fits for people comfortably and even 5 isnt so bad and still fun to drive. It doesnt hurt that theyre pretty safe my brother totalled 2 of them and walked away which is really the reason i got one in the first place

Just bought the wife a new Hyundai Sante Fe last year to haul the new baby around in.
So I'll be driving the GA until either:
1. The Hyundai is paid off in a little over 5 more years
2. It dies and has to be replaced
3. I win the lottery

3. I win the lottery
LMAO!
I think thats a good reason for any of us to get rid of this car, or.....buy a lambo and fix our GA up to the tits, put it in a garage SEALED and come back in 50yrs or so lol
peace

i'll be keeping mine until my son gets old enough to drive and then i MIGHT pass it down to him or until i can't find any parts to repair any thing goes wrong with it.
I had my GA for 4 years, my roommates car died, so he has my GA, I drive a 2001 Crysler Sebring LXi coupe, with a 5-spd. I love it. My GA is still fun to drive too. :D

I'll always have it. I've become so attached to my GAGT, I can't even think of it being in somebody else's hands. Even if something major goes, I'll keep it around.
