Hi all,

I've found a tidy-looking '91 Grand Am SE for sale in Vancouver, BC and have a couple of questions:

1. What engines were available on the '91 SE? This one is an automatic so I'm guessing that rules out it having the Quad-4, but I reckon I might be wrong

2. Did these cars come with ABS?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

2.3L quad 4 HO was offered as an option only I believe so its probably rare to find one of those...its probably the 2.5L "iron duke"

I don't think the '91s have ABS. I know it became standard with the '92 re-design.

You could have had the 2.5L Iron Duke engine (If you pop the hood, your engine air cleaner should say "4 TECH") You could have also had the 2.3L Quad 4 LG0, but thats unlikely if you had an automatic transmission since the High Output quad 4 only made its power at high rpms, and the Auto Trans wouldn't let you rev the shit out of the car... The 2.0L Turbo and the 3.0L V6 were not used on the Grand Am in 1991.

For ABS, it may have it listed on the trunk, or say "ANTI LOCK" on your pedals. Otherwise, you'll have to look at your manual if you have it. I cannot pull up anything older than 1993 on the GM link website.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I'd love to go look at the car but unfortunately it's about 1,200km away from where I am right now. On the listing it says the engine is a 2.3 litre but also that it's an automatic. I remember there was an engine that made more horsepower than the Iron Duke but wasn't the HO Quad 4, but I also thought that engine was only available from 1992 onward. I think I might just e-mail GM to ask or try to find a veteran dealer out here that would know. Thanks again!

1. If it is the SE trim and is automatic, the only engine available is the LD2 (DOHC but non-HO) 2.3L Quad 4. It has 160 HP in 1991. It will have the 3 speed auto, so it won't be that quick, but better than the Iron Duke 2.5L.

2. IIRC ABS was available on the SE, but was still optional. I'll have to check my 91 Pontiac dealer info brochure for specific available options.
