View Full Version : 1997 GAGT Part Out

Engine went on the car. Mechanic thinks it's a head gasket but he's not positive and I told him not to go into the motor too far. No power in 2 pistons as well, and I'm tired of putting money into this car. I already did the head gasket/head milling 2 years ago for about 1,700 so I think it's time to part.

Body is in mostly good condition, it's a 97 GAGT coupe, power everything. For more info check my cardomain (http://www.cardomain.com/id/fire_beast) page. If anyone is interested they would need to get it themselves as it doesn't drive. The car is in Minnesota, shoot offers.

If not, I'm also willing to part out, as long as enough is spoken for. A lot of good parts on this car, leather seats as well. 2 new front tires, 205/55/r16. Engine parts are good too, I got a new radiator with that first head gasket job. Like I said, check the cardomain page, if there is enough interest I'll see what I can do.

Just a rough spew of ideas that I could get off the car:

Interior:
Leather seats (2 bucket in front, one bench/back in back, front ones are power motorized, you'd need to wire them up to a source, back ones fold down to the trunk, black)
Carpet (black, not in perfect condition but not terrible)
Center console (spray painted black, would need a touch up)
Stock Tape and CD Player (I would send both, you need the cd player to use the tape player. Cd player did have the display glitch, but If I remember correctly still played CDs. Has been unused for years now so...)
Glove box door (stock grayish color)
Window regulators/motors (right and left, for power windows)
Gauge Cluster w/ 158,5xx miles
under dash panels (l and r)
plastic panel right under steering wheel (has a nice stealthy rocker switch for wiring something)
fuse box cover panel
rear view mirror with reading lamps (not sure how to go about removing the power wires for this one)
sun visors with mirrors (l and r, gray)
pillar plastic (stock gray)
WIC steering wheel controller (already configured for 97 GA, probably wont work on another type of car)
cigarette lighter
dimmer knob
vents
vent rings (sprayed black)
power door lock switches (right and left doors)
Power window switch (driver door)
door panels (right and left, left side has a bit of a hole, a few clips are busted too so keep your own)
rear 6x9 speakers (whatever was in there when I bought it)
Audiobahn 4x6 and tweeters (may be blown, they aren't very good)
Dash trim (painted black)
trunk carpet (gray)
spare tire cover (gray)
Spare tire and jack (donut)
backseat carpet mats (the fronts are in shit condition so those will get thrown)
4 12" green cold cathodes from oznium.com (2 sets of 2)

Exterior:
Headlights (r and l)
one fog light/housing
front bumper (GT, some scuffs, green)
rear bumper (GT, some scuffs, green)
power mirrors (black but flaking, needs a repaint)
side reflectors (yellow or red)
tail lights (r and l)
trunk with spoiler (GT, green, spoiler is faded cuz it's plastic)
grille inserts (badly painted gold)
2 good tires, 2 bad tires on 4 16" alloy rims (they are in so-so condition)
Powerslot slotted rotors (front l and r, I'd have to check for mileage)
stubby antenna (black, cracked, taped with electric tape)
power sunroof (I have no idea about this thing, or what it would take to make it work, it has been non working for years and I really don't know what to say)
GT door molding
GT badges
trunk lock (I suppose that would require my key though...)
Windshield wipers
windshield wiper arms
Hood (green with a few depressions)

Engine (158,5xx miles):
Fairly new alternator
coolant reservoir w/new cap
spark plug wires
2 year old radiator
front STB (but I lost one of the bolts that holds it in)
stock air box w/filter
dual mufflers (tips painted gold)

I dont know, lots of engine crap

This is just what I threw down out of my head. The bigger items I may not be able to package or ship, hopefully someone can pick them up or meet somewhere for bigger items. Throw prices at me if at all interested, I'm trying to gauge whether I should part or not.

The car is a 2 door coupe, at this point I'd like to try and get the whole set gone together, and I dont think there's any way i can ship something that big.

hey man, I'm looking for the trim pieces that run around the driver's and passenger side windows on the exterior side. It should be 2 or 3 pieces per side I believe and runs around the mirror and up. Let me know if you could help me out. Thanks

Only got interest in a couple things here, not enough for a part out yet. If I can't get a few hundred dollars worth out of this stuff then I might just sell it to a mechanic or tear into the engine myself, since it's worth nothing broken.

How much for the right side headlight( as long as its in good shape- no pitting or cracking)

Trudgn

I'm very interested in ALL the seats, I've wanted leather for a long time and can't find them. I'd also be interested in the A-Pillars. Hopefully you get more interest.

RazorDX

I'm interested in the cruise control components and the power steering pump. (If the car has cruise control)

Also, if your fuel filler neck is good condition, I'm interested in that as well. (It's the metal neck that attaches to your gas cap area, then attaches to a rubber hose near the fuel tank itself.

If you could get a shipping quote on the passenger side fender, I'm also interested in that.

I'm sure there's more, but I can't think if it all at the moment.

What's your asking price on the alternator?

There’s been a bit of interest, I can’t edit my original post now…so here’s an update:

CD and Tape player: Rocketfast321
Badges: jpicks
Seats and A-pillars: Trudgn
Seats and carpet: wtselig07
Cat. Converter: Part-it-out
Exterior window trim: bp’s97GAGT
Passenger Headlight: caleb06

Now, prices really haven't been discussed for any of this, so those who have shown interest need to shoot me some offers. The seats would need to be picked up, the car is in central Minnesota. I might be willing to drive 2 hours or so to meet someone.

I haven't forgotten about you guys, it's just that this thing is still really on the fence. I kind of got an offer that I have to seriously consider, but I'm glad there's more interest in the car now.

I have no idea how I'd ship the body pieces, just wrap them in bubble wrap and put a label on it or what?

Jibo, the pillars you described, I always thought those were A-pillars, and the B-pillar is where the seatbelt hooks up....

Jibo
02-04-2008, 10:02 PM
I've always seen them referred to as B pillars

As for shipping yeah, when I got my GT rear, just wrapped in bubble wrap, and then brown shipping paper over that. And yes I know shipping might get a little pricy on these  but they are the right color already that saves me alot of headache :)

And if those interior pieces you know what I am talking about at least, if they are not spoken for and are not broken where they cclip into the car. I definitely want at least the passenger side.

So you're going ahead with the part-out? How did the offers on the whole car pan out. My offers still stand, and I'm still willing to make the trip over to pick them up! Let me know man.

Silver71
02-09-2008, 11:23 PM
^sounds good. I had 2 offers on the car as whole, I sent them both the same long explanation on the car and what would need to be fixed in addition to the engine (mostly suspension, o2 sensor bs bs bs...) and didn't get a reply back from either.

I also had an offer from my dad to pay to fix the engine, but we won't be able to get a newer one swapped in for less than $1200 and not to mention the whole fixing the rest of the car thing I was gonna do, looking at about 2 grand total.

So now I'm in the process of looking to get a new car. I think I'll go home (hometown) next weekend and take a look at some cars, tow my car back from the mechanics, take some pictures of various parts for you folks (seats, exterior parts, etc) and see if we can't get this part out underway sometime.

Sorry this is taking so long, it's kind of tough to do on the spot, as the car is 3 hours away from my school.

OK, so the car was parted on Saturday. Plans changed a little bit though, so I didn't get everything I would have. I didn't tow the car home, instead my mechanic let me work on the car in his heated shop with his tools and he even did a lot of the body removal, so I am very thankful of him for that. In return, I let him keep the shell of the car with the engine and transmission intact. He'll be able to make a bit of money on the tranny and maybe even fix the engine himself. This means he kept the alternator, power steering pump, radiator, etc because we only had so much time in his shop. If I would have towed the car home myself I would for sure have gotten more parts but it would have taken me a lot longer.

Basically, here is a list of what I got off of the car:

Both headlights
Both taillights
stubby antenna
spare tire cover
spare tire/jack (donut)
front bumper
rear bumper
trunk lid w/spoiler
hood
side skirts
door moldings
power side mirrors
both fenders
4 gt 16" rims w/ tires.
leather bucket seats
leather rear seats
leather door panels
backseat panels w/leather
dash bezel
HVAC knobs
both under dash panels
panel under steering wheel, I have a switch mounted in it
power door lock/window switches
power mirror switch (would go with mirrors)
plastic that goes behind the door handles
rear view mirror w/reading lights
sail panels w/audiobahn tweeters
4x6 audiobahn speakers in stock plastic door housing, hooked to tweets
stock cd/tape player
cig. lighter w/housing
fog light housing/bracket

That is all that comes to mind at the moment. Sorry for the things I couldn't get on the tight time schedule.

I have taken pictures of some of the interior parts and hosted them on a site (there are a lot of them). I only had so much time to clean and take photos this weekend, aside from the part out, so I did what I could. I've still got a bunch of parts at home waiting to be cleaned up. Check the link for pics.

Link To Pictures (http://www.hotlinkfiles.com/browse/Silver71/120285_GyaAG)

More to come of course.

Keep in mind I have all of the stuff needed for someone to do a full SE to GT conversion! I would sell the front and rear bumpers, side skirts, door panels, trunk lid with spoiler and rims in a package if someone were to pick it all up!
EDIT: I just got an email from my craigslist posting, someone wanting to do the conversion locally. It's a possibility.

Guys, I still have a lot of stuff for sale. I've had a lot of nibbles but people never came through.

I've uploaded all of the pictures I have of the parts so far. Most of them are interior and or small parts. I'm giving a link to my photobucket album if anyone is interested in looking at the parts/making an offer.

Again, the parts are located in Central Minnesota and would need to be picked up if large. If small, I can ship.

The list of available parts is pretty much the same as before:

side skirts
door moldings
