The last time we saw some good spy shots of the 2009 Chevy Camaro (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/03/spy-shots-2009-chevy-camaro-caught-with-interior-shots/), it was sitting on a trailer waiting for transport. Those shots included images of the car's interior, but we've got more for you today courtesy of a Jalopnik reader who snapped a camouflaged prototype just sitting around somewhere. The interiors of both cars appear to be the same, which supports the theory that this instrument panel is close to production ready. It incorporates a number of elements from the Camaro Concept's interior (http://www.autoblog.com/photos/chevy-camaro-concept/120100/), including the big gauge pod with two large dials for the tach and speedo, as well as a cluster of four gauges at the bottom of the center console for battery voltage, oil pressure, oil temperature and one we haven't seen on a production car before: torque. Sure, the concept interior's flare has been toned down for production, but GM did not raid the corporate parts bin as much for the Camaro's interior as Chrysler has apparently done for the Dodge Challenger's interior (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/01/27/reader-spy-2009-dodge-challenger-r-t-interior/). Click the Read link to view more new spy pics of the Camaro's interior over at Jalopnik.

Eh, not digging it. I like the retro console mounted gauge package but looks awefully cheap. Not to mention that is one of the worst looking steering wheels I've seen in a new car.

The Interior is obviously not finished. For engine and road tests, GM is not going to care about what the interior looks like.

Um some of those photos the interior looks about 90% put together to me.
Doesn't look good to me, especially that god aweful steering wheel.

Well... 1) the interior doesn't have GM's usual "Finishing Touches" on it when it is starting production. 2) If you look near the passenger side of the retro gauges, you can easily see the wiring exposed. 3) The driver side door area of the dash isn't complete.

When it comes to this stage of a car, they're concerned about drivability. Why spend the money to put in a fabulous interior for a car that is just there for engine and road testing? Especially if the preproduction car is highly likely to be destroyed once the model goes into production. In addition, the car makers don't want their competetors to see the finished interiors too early. Dodge and Ford's interiors are either heavily camouflaged still, or they're also not very finshed and polished off to avoid giving the final version away.

As far as the wheel goes, I think that it'll probably follow GM's general trend of using the newer tri spoke style that comes in alot of the newer (2007+) GM vehicles (Cobalt, G5, G6, Corvette, HHR, Malibu, Solstice and so on...) If it does get that tri-spoke wheel, that will actually be a good thing since it is an exceptionally built steering wheel. Its alot thicker than some of GM's previous wheels, and feels more natural.

Well thanks, but I obviously didn't think they were going to offer them in showroom condition with exposed wires.

And I'm fully aware its not finished, you can clearly see where it's missing trim peices. But if you also look at other photos those trim items are there and the door panel is uncovered.

However those minor details aren't what I was commenting about, it's the over all design, it looks aweful. No amount of trim peices can make it look good. And that steering looks like it's sagging. Don't understand why they had to make it appear that the center 'hub'/horn/airbag is off center like that. Not to mention just the design looks cheap, like something you'd find in a Korean compact ecconobox.

These pics gave a hint to what motor may be in the Camaro. One of the gauges in the pod is Torque, and it goes up to 370.

Thanks but I thought there was a photo of it.

LMAO, I doubt that will make it to production.

Still not believing thats going to be the 100% interior design. It still has another year before its most likely going to hit the streets. They probably have the engine and tranny in mind already, suspension as well therefore being track tested.

Knowing GM they might have some of that interior the same when it comes but I garuntee that only 20% of those pictures will be the full design. They probably put some kind of makeshift dash because to me that doesn't look like a whole lot of design.

I always reserve judgement on how a car looks( inside or out) until I see it in person. What looks wack on print/web can look quite different in the flesh.

Funny, the gauge 'Pods' remind me of the my GA's interior.
