Is there a master code for these things? I don't want to take it to the only Pontiac dealer in town since I didn't buy the car through them so they'll more than likely charge me for shutting it off or resetting the code.

I didn't find a paper in the car that mentions a radio code except for a business car for a place called Al's Audio or something. On the back it says 0119 RADIO CODE (guy liked upper case letters) but when I try to enter it theres no way to begin the code with a 0 and 119 is incorrect.

I'm all for anti-theft stuff but this is stupid. A security system based around power. So if your battery dies or you need to clean the battery terminals or disconnect them for any reason, you're boned if you don't have the code.

The factory stereos have an internal battery that lasts a loooonnnnng time (lithium-ion? I dunno), and keeps the unit's stored codes, time, presets, etc. for a long time (days+) even when the car's starting battery is disconnected.

If your steroe is loosing data during battery disconnects, then it's time to replace the stereo's battery.

Not sure about the pre-99, but I'm pretty sure on the 99-00 that if you have Theftlock on, the code isn't saved, since that wouldn't deter many theives from stealing radios. On the 01+ radio, it is VIN-based, so you can't swap radios between cars.

I had this kind of problem. You can go to dealer and using Tech2 tool remove old car VIN from radio eeprom than radio would use part of yoyr current car VIN. But in Poland where I live there is no true GM dealers. We can go only to Opel dealers but Opel software for Tech2 tool is not compatible with Pontiac. So I went to one car radio specialist. He removed eeprom from the radio and found on the last line of eeprom image part of VIN: one letter (factory code) and 6 digits (serial number of car made in that factory), after removing and programming part of my VIN radio started to work. It was fast to do it (15 minutes) and rather cheap, more or less 18USD.
