I just wanted to see if there has been anyone with the same problem. For some strange reason, I think that I had a tranny fluid leak and it started the problem.
A couple of days ago, it felt hard shifting when put on drive. The reverse worked fine. after a day, reverse felt hard shifting as well. When put on gear, it feels like it takes time before it latches on or something. the car would crawl for a few meters before it goes fine. After the initial crawl, car is fine. I stopped using the car in fear that i might do more harm driving it around.
Is there an adjustment for this problem? has anyone had this problem and had success fixing it without getting a new tranny or getting a specialist?

How many miles are on your car? Reason is is that many here on the board have warned about a total power flush NOT being good for a high mileage tranny. But I think you may have a problem as these tranny's don't get the care and attention they should. If you read the manual it states that for normal use there is no need to service the tranny. No need cause GM wants to rebuild your tranny when it goes for mucho bux.
Anyway, you surely could do a filter and fluid change. Certainly won't hurt. I have also used a product called Trans Tune made by Seafoam. put it in the wifes Taurus and the tranny has been working fine. Did that probably 2 years ago.
That's about the extent of my knowledge on auto tranny's. But my fix for an 84000 mile tranny was to swap in a 5 speed. Good luck.

2k, is probably right. But how many miles are on your vehicle, and when was the last time the transmission fluid was changed? Also if its leaking, your f'd unless you want to fix that seal.

it has about 160k. engine replaced on it already and i don't really feel like replacing the tranny. I really don't think last person who owned it took good care of the car. although i should have checked the tranny fluid when i first got it. I'll be openning the tranny on sat. and completing the flush. Then when it's done, i shall be crossing my fingers in hopes that this fixes the problem.
Now i quickly browsed through the haines manual and found some info on calibrating/adjusting the tranny. Maybe someone knows how to do this if it needs to be done?

If it has that many miles on it, the transmission is probably bad, and flushing or changing the fluid, would make matters worse.

Maybe someone knows how to do this if it needs to be done?I don't know what you found in Haynes on this mtter, or what you're talking about.
There is absolutely no calibration or adjustment necessary or possible on the '00 GA auto trannies.
Just disconnect the battery NEG cable (for safety) and do the fluid change.
This will also have the effct of erasing stored computer codes.
This 8-yr old tranny isn't truly 'adaptive' (as in, "It adapts to the different styles of driving of different drivers.").
But it DOES *kinda* remember whether you floor the gas pedal so the tranny must shift at higher speeds, or whether you drive like a little old lady and it shifts more 'conservatively.'). This data is stored in the ECM and it uses it for the tranny's NEXT shifts.
So, by disconnecting the battery, you are forcing the ECM to 're-learn' whethr you are hot-footed or slow-n-easy.
But as you change the fluid, no, there's no other 'adjustment' or 'calibration' to do.
Hope this helps,
-Rick
