View Full Version : ABS, SVS, Trac Off lights due to donut?

Hello,
I read about checking the wiring if these lights come on, but I was wondering if having a donut on can activate the sensor? I've never had those 3 lights come on until yesterday, the morning after my tire went flat (late that night) and I put the donut on. Or, am I just lucky enough for it to be coincidence? :(
Thank you

no, it comes on when it wants to, i had donuts on my car and never had the 3 lights come on. mine does it at random, backing into a parking space or going low speeds.

They are stupid sensors that they put in and are pointless, they are probably just warning you that a tire slipped or some stupid shit like that. Dont worry about it.

No. That would be the 'Low Trac' light. What he's referring to is a problem with the ABS/ETS system itself. This entry in the FAQ explains the issue: http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/faq.php?faq=errors#faq_ets
Please stop spreading incorrect information. :(

I'm a she :) But, anyway, so more than likely there is something else going on besides the bad luck with my front right tire?

Sorry about that. :O But yeah, the spare likely isn't causing the problem.
BUT: You should NEVER have a spare tire on the front of a FWD vehicle. Because of the size difference, you will cause premature wear to the transmission/differential, not to mention safety issues. Always put the spare on the back, then rotate the back tire to the front. It's a little more work, but safer and cheaper in the long run.
If the flat occurred while driving, debris could have snagged the sensor wires. Check them first. Good luck!

when my abs/track off lights came on it was because of the speed sensors in the front hub ended having to change both in the front to fix the problem

welllllllllll........ I solved part of my problem, I bought 4 brand new tires today. I thought, since they supposedly do an 18-point inspection with every service, that they'd catch what was wrong, but no luck. It was raining so I figured I'd wait until tomorrow to check my wires out. Thanks for the help :)

New tires!!! Whoo, Hoo!!
Even guys like shopping for tires. :D :D
But you say that SVS, ABS, and Trac Off lights are still 'on', and their 18-point inspection didn't find anything amiss?
WHO are 'they' (Firestone, Goodyer, Fly-By-Nite Tires'n'
Tacos)??
So, what caused the flat tire to begin with?
If it were impact with road debris, then I would also closely inspect the cable/connector from the wheel speed sensor.
SVS light is *usually* caused by a burned-out headlight; do a nighttime check of all the lighting, including DRL, Lo, and Hi.
Good luck,

Oh, it was Mr. Tire. They supposedly do an 18-pointer... but the lights reset when you turn the car off. The flat came from a nail, or so we think. I had it plugged at a garage and 3 days later, my wheel was touching the ground. Anyway, I have only seen the lights once since I've had the new tires on. So.. uhm.. I guess thats good. Confusing, but good.

2000-2005 models will illuminate the SVS light also when the ABS/Trac Off lights are lit. 1999 models only lit ABS/Trac Off.
If the ABS/Trac Off lights weren't also lit, I'd suspect a headlamp bulb/connection. :)

Not so good, actually. That points to an intermittent problem or poor connection. It will only get worse with time. Any good brake shop can scan the EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Module) for error codes, which will point you in the right direction as to which sensor/connector is malfunctioning. Unfortunately that scan is not free; price will vary so call around.
As already stated, once you find out which one is the culprit, don't just rush out and replace the hub. Check/clean and apply dielectric grease to the connection first to rule that out.

ARgh.. haha I thought I was in the clear. Just my luck
But, thank you... I'll have it checked. My car is hellbent on spending all of my tax return for me.
