I just bought an 87 for basic transportaion. It has been running real rough the last week. Today I checked and cleaned the spark plugs and pulled out the throttle body and cleaned it with some spray. Once I put it back together it seemed to run great! But once I put a load on the engine, ie: step on the gas, accelerate up a hill, etc... it still starts coughing. If I slowly step on the gas it runs OK.
I really made it do it and I could smell gas!
I am guessing the next step should be the plug wires? Anyone know what the specs are on those? Also, if I want to see if I am getting proper spark at all cylinders what is the best way to check that? And next the coils? Please any suggestions would be helpful, my wife is using this car for work and I want it to be running right!
