Fuel Guage.

I have a problem. Driving the other day, start the car, and it says I have a quarter tank! I drive less than a 1/4 mile, and the car starts sputtering, and i run out of gas, so I have to get the car on the side of the road, put on the hazards, and walk like a mile to get gas!

Anyways, I know it is the fuel guage now, it is floating around way too much! I don't even know remotely what gas level I have!

The sender unit is in the gas tank and may need replacing . But first i'd check the wiring & connections at the tank before doing that .

How much would that run me, how easy for me would it be for me to check it?
