View Full Version : Foglights...or BCM?

99 GAGT with stock lamps.

When I hit the switch to turn the fogs on, the relay(in the dash-sounds like center area, but...) clicks, but they don't come on. I normally do my own work, but I have a mechanic check it out if it's electrical-as I don't have many patience when it comes to troubleshooting. But he couldn't come up with anything.

I'm thinking a problem with the BCM, as the PDL's don't work-no lock from the switch in doors, no lock @ 10-15mph, no lock from key fob. They will unlock from the key fob. The reason I'm thinking this, is that both issues occurred at about the same time.

Any ideas?

Check the fuses in all three fuse boxes.
Even though these systems aren't directly-related, many systems in the GA 'cross-over' and a fault in one will prevent another from operating propperly.

The Fogs are NOT controlled in any way by the BCM.
They are (fortunately) a dumb, simple switch-and-relay add-on set of lights that interfaces with the low headlight beams.
If there's a problem with the lowbeams (including with the manual switch, the DRL's and the AutoLightControl system), then the BCM will almost always set an SVS code.

Have you just plain checked the fog bulbs? It's possible both have burned-out.

As to the PDL's, it's possible this is a BCM problem.
But it might also be something you did, inadvertently.
As I understand the '99+ PDL's and the remote fob, the car Owner can reset the PDL's program to behave in different ways.
It's some combintaion of holding down different buttons on the fob at once, and clicking 'xx' times.
I *think* the procedure is described in your vehicle owner's manual.

Hope this helps,
-Rick

Its just the switch itself, mine died on me last year.
Its $20 at the dealer, 5 minutes to swap.

I would go through and check your fuses, door lock relay, and fog light relay.

Wrong.. BCM is what ultimately powers the fog relay coil. Watch out making blanket statements like that w/out doing your homework.

.... Have you checked the bulbs?

I have not checked the bulbs. When they first when on the blink, they would come on as normal, then turn off at some point during the drive. Sometimes they would come back on, and sometimes they wouldn't. I didn't have any free time back then, so I turned the switch off and left it. I'll be getting the car home this weekend sometime, so I can look it over then.

There hasn't been any problems with the low beams or DRL at all, with the exception of a burnt bulb that has been replaced.
