Is removing the MAF screen safe for the engine and components? I read an article on how do it without damaging the MAF sensor. Does it lead to any long term damage or cause other problems? Also, will it cause the engine light to come on? Thanks for any help.

This is touchy with some people....I did it for a few people, and the screen is no big deal....if you want to up that one more, I cut out the large middle flat fin as well....did make a bit of difference, I would recommend it, but not everyone agrees....

It's not going to offer up a noticeable increase in horsepower - it'll be up to as to whether or not it's worth it.

The screen is there to protect the filaments in the MAF - if they break, they can't be fixed, and you'll be out the cash for a new sensor.

On the other side, I've yet to hear of anyone actually suffering from damage to their MAF, so it's your call.

I wouldn't recommend doing it. You probably won't notice any gain at all by doing so, more risk of ruining your MAF for a mod that isn't going to do much at all. Those things are damn expensive too if i remember correctly.

The screen on the MAS is there for a reason. It is there to protect the thin sensor and to keep Foreign material from entering the throttlebody and engine. It is not uncommon to see rocks lodged in the screen and I have seen some pretty big ones.

If you have matter such as you described in the air stream, you have more troubles than just this ... I have the screen removed and the baffle plate removed as well and there was indeed a noticable difference :)
