Valve Cover Question

I am replacing the valve cover gaskets on my 96 and i cannot get the cover off. does the timing chain cover need to come off as well?

There is no valve cover. The two housings that have the cams inside of them. GM refers to them as "cam towers".

Technically though, you can possibly refer to them as valve covers, but they're just not quite that.


To answer your question.... yes the timing chain housing has to come out.

Expect to spend the better part of your weekend doing all this.

Your'e basically disassembling just short of removing the head.
