Well since I was positive on the trade in on the RX-8 I decided to go ahead and get a different car. I looked at GTO's (some of you voted in that poll) But there were only a few manuals and they didnt want to negotiate and there was no way I was paying $27,000 for a used GTO. This was a new 07 so it had a larger rebate then the 08 I got it for 28,000 including tax and extended warranty and . Sticker price was $35,045. Since my other house sold I used that money and paid of the car. So no car payment now and I couldn't be happier about that.
I've always wanted to have a convertible and the mustang is pretty much the only new option that I could have avoided having a car payment.
So here are the options:
5 Speed Manual
Shaker 500
Interior Upgrade Package
Active Anti-Theft System
Sirius Radio
Comfort Group (Auto dimming Mirror, Heated Seats and some other stuff)
GT Appearance package (hood scoop, chrome rolled exhaust and engine cover)
Convertible boot cover
17" Bright machined rims
Premier Trim Package
Also went with a 6 year bumper to bumper extended warranty. Because I do actually plan on keeping this car.
Heres what I have planned right now:
Put in my Avic Z1 navigation
Replace the battery with my Optima yellow top
Paint the calipers (color of the car or red)
Thinking about:
Billet Grill (I love the style that is on ebay where it just goes over the current grill and keeps the mustang on the front but I'm worried it may block the airflow)
Ive seen some where the are between the tail lights are black and have thought about that.
Thinking about adding an intake.
So any suggestions on things to do with it?
And yes it's dirty I cleaned it last night and then it rained and it 9 degrees right now with a windchill of -14 so I wasnt going to clean it just yet (when its going to snow tomorrow) And no comments about dirty floor mats either. Those are my plastic winter ones that I put in to keep the other ones from getting really bad from the salt and snow.

If you ever plan on putting a blower on that car my advice to you would be to not waste your money on an intake and tune.
Being that you are driving that car in the winter I would invest in a good set of snow tires. That car will handle like crap otherwise.
My first mod on that car would def be rims, I hate the stock rims with a passion.

I like the color of the car The tan top wouldn't have been my choice but if I went with a 2008 it would have been $35,000 plus tax and warranty. For me I would rather of had the tan top then pay over 8,000 more. Plus then I would have had a car payment because I didnt have 35,000 to spend.....

Oh and here are some pictures I just took with the top down....I do have a boot to go over the top but I didnt feel like putting it on. When it warms up I will take some good photos. The boot is black so at least that is a plus.
I bet the people that drove by were laughing given that its like 12 degrees outside.

Yep I knew I was never going to keep the RX-8 for very long. I made money on the sale of the RX-8 and thats why I bought it in the first place. The dealership didn't know what they had and they wanted to get rid of it and I wanted to get out of my terrible lease. And since that dealership was a Pontiac, Mazda, GMC they were willing to work with me to get out of the lease.
I feel sorry for who ever traded the RX-8 they must have really low balled them or they took a huge loss one or the other. I paid a little over 18,000 for the RX-8 and traded it in for $21,000.

I got a convertible because I wanted one. Never had one and always thought it might be cool to have one.

Since the housing market is so bad that will probably be the last of my investments for quite some time thats why I dont want a car payment.

I haven't decided if I'm going to do anything major like that or not yet. Right now I'm not going to have a lot of money to invest in it because of paying it off. I dont really care for the stock rims either I will probably eventually use them for the winter with winter tires and get some better rims for the summer. Thanks for the links I will be sure to check those out.

congrats on the mustang. i suggest getting a nice exhaust for it, those motors might not be the fastest but they sound great.
I a personally not a fan of the color, and i never liked that body style in convertible. I do agree that its a step up from the RX8 tho.

There are lots of things I have been looking at to dress up the engine and they are actually fairly cheap. I'm usually not a fan of engine covers. But the cover that comes with the upgraded GT really looks good in my opinion. But there is a lot of black plastic that needs to be replaced I will probably be getting a strut brace fairly soon which will make that are look a little less plain. It's kinda nice to have so many options on things to do and not have them cost an arm and a leg like on the RX-8.

Thanks! I agree with you its not the fastest vehicle at the full price that it costs but it does sound really good. Especially when comparing it to the rotary RX-8. I would like to get an exhaust but I want to make sure that I make the right choice. The car is already pretty loud and I don't want an exhaust that sounds bad. As far as the color choice it was either this or bright red. The original vehicle I wanted was a Vista Blue (the dark blue color) convertible with a black top. But it was a 2008 and out of the price I could pay completely for so I would have had a car payment. My personal opinion of the convertible top is that they don't look the best when the top is up from the back but I think they look good when the top is down. But not everyone likes convertibles and I understand that. We will see how much I like it when its all said and done. Whether end up liking the mustang or not I'm going to have to keep it for 4-5 years at least. I'm hoping that I enjoy it though and keep it longer. I'm actually quite tired of dealing with the dealerships and negotiating.
Perosnally don't like stangs in rag top form, but its still a nice car :)

and you say yer car is dirty. bahhh humbug. did ya see mine?! lolChoosing a car sucks. It took me quite some time to come to the decision to make this purchase and pay it off. I'd love to spend the money on something else. But, I have to watch my money till the market picks up which meant even the RX-8 was going to be a strain on my finances over the next few years. (cost of oil I was putting a container of oil in ever 2-3 weeks, cost of gas which was premium and 13mpg compared to the 16 im getting in the GT, cost of repairs)
If it were my decision I would probably keep the Grand Am and get something older used that would be fun and enjoyable. There are many times that I still wish I had the Orange Grand Am around.
You should see my car now, I hate this weather it looks as bad as yours did this morning now. I was not happy when I got out of work yesterday and the convertible was covered with a huge layer of ice and snow... Now if I want to get it washed I have to freeze to death doing the self car wash (low pressure on the top)

Finally someone else who actually likes convertibles. I'm glad to hear you say that Shawn, everyone keeps saying why buy a convertible. It's something I have always wanted also. I'm not a huge mustang fan either. But, when looking at getting a new convertible it was really the only choice that had the features I wanted and was under $40,000.

I have no idea what everyone has against convertibles. Sure, they may not be as fast as a coupe due to the extra weight, but nothing, I repeat nothing is as fun as cruising with the top down.
I'm not talking about the shitty convertibles of the 80's either, with massive cowl shake, body flex, etc. But a good car with a stiff chassis is hella fun to drive with no roof.
I guess you just gotta own one at some point to understand. Not everything has to be about balls to the wall performance to be fun.

I took some more pictures. First I installed my navigation, purchased a radar detector (escort 9500i). I took a picture of the guages. I love the MyColor feature that lets you change the color of all the lighting to whatever color you want. I have mine set as blue since it matches the outside.

Not bad at all. That color combo is pretty unique and it does catch the eye. Get rid of those ugly arse rims ASAP! Nice set of staggered rims out back will make it look amazing.
Good buy.

Yeah she has the Vista Blue. Thats the color that I was originally going to get on an 08.But, I found the 07 which saved me about $8,000.

i cant speak for everyone here, but i feel that on most 'verts the lack of the top interrupts the lines of the car. the mustang has some nice curves to it, but without a top, the shape seems flat.
now i get the best of both worlds. the t-tops come off and i have a pretty open roof, but with the tops on (and even with them off) it still has the lines.
Im going to add that this is still a bad ass mustang. Its tough to beat the sound of that motor. check to see what people recommend on the mustang forums, they seem pretty helpful, but i dont think you can go wrong with that motor. it makes such a nice sound, its tough to mess that up.

Don't get me wrong, Dave, I love T-tops too. It's a real shame to see they've all but disappeared. :(
As for the lines of the car, I guess that depends on the car itself. Some cars just look better without a roof.

I agree with you there too Shawn. I think the mustang convertible only looks bad with the convertible top up (thats why I took a picture for my avatar with the top down when it was 8 degrees outside). Just looks very odd. But with the top down I think the convertible looks a lot better than a hardtop. But thats just me. Some people just love hardtops. If I wasn't getting a convertible though I'm not sure that I would have bought a mustang.

IMO the vert mustang looks really loooong with the top down. I'm also not a fan of the vert top being a different color than the body. It makes the car look really odd with the top up (no offense). Black on black looks good but I still wouldnt own one.

I hear what your saying but it would be a shame if the convertibles only came in tan and black (since thats the only colors that the roof can come in from ford) If I could have ordered my car I would have opted for a black cloth top. But, I didn't order it so I cant complain there. I agree a black convertible with a black top would be more seamless but I've had a black car and I like to always have my car clean and its just too much work for me. I'd love to have a hardtop convertible then you don't have the issue with the odd looking roofs. But then you also usually have pretty much no trunk. But I guess I would gladly trade off no trunk for a hardtop. But thats never going to happen with the mustang.

Black FTW :D yes it does suck keeping them clean though :P
As far as the hardtop goes...Ford put a removable hard top on 499 1995 cobra mustangs and is considering one for the '09 or '10 model.
There are also aftermarket options out there

I do like black cars. But I would either spend a fortune in car washes or probably just kill myself cleaning it by hand when its freezing. If I owned a touch less carwash I would definently want a black car because I think they look great. I did know about the 95 Cobra but did not know about the new models so thanks for the info that would be very interesting.

Ok well I have done some things to the mustang. Heres the list:
Window tint 15%
AFE cold air intake
GT 500 strut brace
Sequential tail lights
painted mirror covers
blackout panel
8000K HID
I also added tint and a light bar to the truck. I don't think I every posted the pics on here.

And here is a video of the tail lights and how the car sounds with the new intake. Not the best video but my camera doesnt do videos that well. The difference between my tail lights and the stock is 2 things when you press the brake of a stock mustang only the outer 2 sections light up. With the sequential lights all 3 sections light up and then the sections light up from right to left and when you use the turn signals it flashes from right to left.
