heres a question ive always been curious about...

okay on ebay listings and such i have seen different versions of grand am gts

GT
GT1
GT2

is there a difference between these? i think there is but not sure of them

also, i have a 75th anniversay GT1. Is there anything special about it except for the embroidered emblems in the seats and the stickers on the door?

Theres no such thing as a "GT2", Theres only SE,SE1,SE2,GT,GT1

GT1s pretty much have everything Grand Ams could have. At least mine and the other few I've seen do. I wish they'd have made GT1 badging though.

Not correct. GT1 package was a 6 way driver's power seat, steering wheel radio controls, leather wrapped wheel, and moonroof. The only options were leather and chrometechs iirc.

Actually there was a GT2 trim available in Canada for one model year (can't remember which one, possibly 2001).

Keep in mind that option packages changed through the years and could be different between the US and Canada. None of the trim package lists I've ever seen ever considered those variations so I would not blindly trust any of them.

I've never heard of a GT2, but you're right about there being differences from year to year and from the US and Canada. That is why we don't have an exact list of the options included.

It doesn't really matter anyway, all they are is option packages. Does it matter if you got the options separately or in a package?

Guess I have a GT1 then....the only option mine doesn't have is leather interior(seats), chrome wheels(covers),and Monsoon radio(not sure if offered in 99?). With the leather wrapped wheel came the leather wrapped shifter.

sunrunner_pei

Monsoon wasn't offered until 2001. For 1999-2000 there was a 'Premium' audio package with an external amp powering the dual-input 6x9" rear speakers, and tweeters in the mirror trim panels.

I have the sunroof, leather steering wheel, Monsoon Stereo and chome rims, does that make mine a GT1?

No.

mine definately is, shows on the info i got with the car. the 6 way seating sucks when trying to reposition when a mechanic has been in it

Having the window sticker is probably the only way to know or sure. I've got the chrometech wheels, moonroof, leather steering wheel/shifer and 6-way power seat. But mine is a GT. I'm missing leather and the steering wheel radio controls.

For 2003 leather was included in the Canadian GT1 package.

this.
so you don't have a gt1.
but....not all GT1's with leather were canadian?

sunrunner_pei

You've still lost me. I have no idea where you'd get the idea that your car is Canadian out of that.

when you said that for the 2003, leather was included.....but is that just for the canadian models??

I specified Canadian models. Just illustrating the point that there are differences in the packages between US and Canadian models.

Also just because the options included with the GT1 package are on the car doesn't necessarily make it a GT1. It could be a GT with the options added individually.

IIRC the only option that was part of the Canadian GT1 package that couldn't be ordered from factory on a GT were the steering wheel radio controls.

So is there any difference between the 3400 engines with GT and GT1's?

Zero, zilch, nada. No difference.

I know some people might think the GT1 is faster than the GT because they got a factory freak.

I think when my car had lower mileage mine was a factory freak...I walked all over 03+ 3400's that only had like 10k on the clock and mine was at about 74,xxx at the time. Now after my engine rebuild we will see if i can still play with the lower mileage GA's.

hrmmm interesting:

i have the steering wheel control, cloth seats, 6way driver's seat, sunroof, and premium sound package all in my SE

but thats not a GT in the least, just more wiring to splice for audio imo.

i think the gt1 should have come in an optional manual package as well

Bouchie11982

i think that'd be the SE2? or an SE1? i know bibi's SE had cloth seats, 6w way seating and sunroof. dont remember the size engine though

Chances are you're sporting an SE2, or a very loaded up SE1.

For the GT vs GT1...isn't like the 5th to last letter in the VIN a V(GT1) instead of a W(GT). I don't really remember where in the VIN it is, but I thought that was a true way to tell.

Nope. The last 6 digits in the VIN are the sequential number therefore all numbers.

Ok, I just looked it up. The 5th letter from the beginning is a V on GT1s and a W on GTs.

Not always, it depends on the model year if that will work.

I'm sporting leather interior, the aluminum wheels, cruise control on the steering whell (no audio), Monsoon sound, and no sunroof. It does have a rebuilt title, so it could of had the chrome rims at one point. I would have to assume that mine is just a GT though.
