Sunday morning i noticed a stumble when first starting up. So I went to work, (I work at a transportation company), to read the codes. Had the normal Small Evap code, but decided to play a bit with the software monitoring tool (ProScan). Thank fully I did. A pending code of P0301 (misfire cylinder 1) popped up. I said to my self time to do that LIM! Then thought. "Oh oh how could LIM prob cause a P0301."
Come Monday morning, I didn't have the stumble but, on the way in engine temp went over normal range, no heat at vents. Just when I was getting worried it dropped to normal and heat came on ...
Going home last night, the same occurred but the temp went almost to the top of the gauge range. I talked to our shop foreman, I'm pulling it in the bays this am and we're going to put a pressure gauge on the coolant system, but we think it might need a head gasket on the rear!

So I'm off to work with Haynes manual, "angrysk8r"'s how to, and a few hand tools the shop might not have in hand!

Well it was definitely a head gasket.....
Just have to complete the oil and coolant change in the morning and fire it up. Ended up doing both head gaskets and LIM/UIM, took about 7 hours between 2 HD mechanics and myself.

Fired up this morning, what a stench. She was chugging and going on......mixed up the plug wires on the back bank, silly diesel mechanics!

Took a bit before she toned down and idled correctly, runs smooth now! 40 KM on it and nothing wrong so far.

That write up did come in handy, thanks for that!
