My friend who has installed many head units installed one in my car 2 weeks ago, however when I turn the car off the head unit no longer gets any power from the battery. This causes a problem when I have to reset my time everytime I get in the car. Is there a wire he forgot to hook up, or something else I need to install w/it. I have a 98 GA/GT. Some advice would be most appreciated.

he didn't hook up a constant wire. you need to find a wire, usually yellow, that isn't hooked up to anything. if you don't see any wires to hook it up to right off hand you can either a) pay somebody to find where it goes or b) hook up in the fuse panel to something that constantly gets power even when the key is off, i.e.-brake lights. to do that just take the fuse out, put the wire in the slot the fuse slides into, and push the fuse down onto the wire. it's not pretty and it's not professional, but it works. ive done it a time or two although i dont like to

my guess is he has the acc wire hooked up to constant and the constant hooked up to accessory. The deck wouldn't turn on at all if either one of those didn't have power. Tell me you didn't let him chop off the factory plugs...

he does have a good point. i didn't even think about that. i just thought no memory, has to be the constant. and if by some chance the factory plug did get hacked off you can still find out what wires go where if you can find a wiring diagram of the stereo somewhere. i have a chilton's book and it has a complete wiring diagram of the car

you can also use a multimeter to fid the power wires and ground, and then a battery to find out which speaker wire is which.

thats sooooo stupid to chop off the factory plug. why doesnt anyone leave these jobs up to the pros?

infact he did chop off the factory plug...but never fear...I will get in touch w/a couple pros I know and they will have my gear hooked up in no time...now that I have an idea of what the problem is.

The things people will do to save a few bucks. haha If you don't want to spend like $20 for a harness from Metra, get a scosche from walmart at least.

I'd take a hardwire over dealing with an ignition interlock customer ANY day.
