GRESHAM, Wis. - Frank Oresnik's trusty pickup truck — he calls it "the old girl" — passed the 1 million-mile mark with a camera crew filming the event and a public-radio audience listening in. "I can't tell you how much fun it was," he said. "It was really humbling, all this interest."

Recent news stories told how Oresnik had just 1,200 miles to go before reaching the milestone in the 1991 Chevrolet Silverado that he bought with 41,000 miles on it in 1996 and used in his business, distributing seafood and steaks in the upper Midwest.

At the time, he was getting his latest oil change — the kind of regular maintenance he credits with helping to keep the truck going so long.

He said he's had the truck's oil changed more than 300 times. It's had so many changes that the oil pan drain plug had to be rethreaded several times, he said, and "you never hear of that."

He passed the million-mile mark Friday in southeastern Wisconsin while on his way back home to Catawba, located in the north in Price County, about an hour west of Rhinelander. He was on County Highway V southeast of Fond du Lac.

On hand was a film crew from Chevrolet's public relations and advertising company, and he was speaking live to Robert Siegel, host of National Public Radio's "All Things Considered."

A news crew from CBS had been with him earlier in the day.

"I wont say it was relief ... it was exhilarating," Oresnik said later during a stop in Gresham where he has one of his longtime customers. "This truck has been so dependable over the years." Now that it's made history, the truck could be headed back to the automaker or Shell Oil. Oresnik said there's been some interested in GM or Shell Oil buying it.

This just proves that it doesn't mtter where it was built. My friends father only drove GMs and all of hi vehicles had well over 200,000 miles on them and still ran like a champ. Take care of it and it will take care of you. Crap happens with all brands and models, doesn't matte domestic or imported.

My 1996 GMC Z71 has 140K+ miles on it and she still runs like its brand new.

This past year ive had to replace the battery, alternator, blower motor, blower motor resistor, front brakes, starter, rear window remounted (literaly fell out) and flush and refill all fluids. These are basic repairs for a vehicle that has this kind of mileage and this old. That article does not say what his repairs where other than re-threading the oil plug. You cant tell me he hasnt had to repair anything in 959,000 miles.

Now im not saying thats bad to have had alot of repairs becuase if you look at the price of repairing things when they go bad is a HELL OF ALOT cheaper than buying a new vehicle every 3-5 years.

I swear by GM full size trucks, i wont buy any other truck.
My truck WILL make the 1 million mile mark.
My dads 94 GMC Z71 is at 340,000 miles.

Awesome. Maybe they'll start bringing it around to Autoshows if Chevy buys it. Saab had a car with over 1 mill on it at NAIAS last year. I can't imagine what it felt like to roll over the odometer, I get excited when I pass milestones, I look a picture of 200k.

Yeah IIRC that Saab was owned by a NY man who was a school teacher or something.

Coupe I agree, can't expect wear and tear items like battery, alternators, or even balljoints ect to survive 1,000,000 miles.

Dad's 1995 Nissan Maxima SE,Bought new. By 180K all these parts needed replacement:
Water pump
Starter
Radiator
Lower suspension/bushings
Radio Head Unit

2003 BMW X5 3.0 ( Parents ride) By 90K heres what broke:
Engine Oil Separator,$1700 repair not covered by extended warranty
Intake Manifold boot, $300
Brake pad/rotor replacement, $1000
Rear bed latch.
Transmission computer
One taillight
Intake manifold boot ( again).
And probably more stuff than that.

And this is why you can't sell me the 'domestics suck' line. Not when im taking my folks to work in my GA.

saw his "maintenance" on another site:

The truck has had four radiators, three gas tanks, five transmissions and six water pumps, but the engine has never been overhauled

i drove a ford f (250? 350?) at work hauling some iron and supplies around last year that had 350,000+ on it. and thats with hauling equipment all the time. it was leaking oil and coolant all over the place but just refused to quit!

that GM truck though, thats amazing. you would be hard pressed to ever surpass that!

I look at every milestone as being every traffic light I go through. Just one more light that an idiot decided I didn't need an engine bay anymore. ;)

Good on him for reaching the million mark.
