my GT has about 95k on the clock, mostly interstate miles, just wondering how long you guys think these engines will last?

There are people with a lot more miles on them than that. Take care of it and it should run for a good long while. Got about 84K on mine. Giving her a nice tune up come spring.

With proper care like changing oil on time, not beating the crap out of it all the time, and doing tune ups. It should last you quite some time.

there was one in the yard in a 97 montanna that had 270k on it.

Mine has 113k and its running great. I've done a lot of preventative maintainence on it (which is critical with aging cars - especially GMs).

If you keep checking the oil to make sure it doesn't look like a milkshake, you should be good. If it starts to look like a milkshake, get the LIM changed if you don't want the engine to seize.

I just hit 75K with mine, and still runs wonderful. I do need a tune up soon, got a set of MSD wires and Bosch Platinum +2's waiting to be swapped in.

:mad:NO NO NO!!!
Take those plugs back now. Your going to have all sorts of miss fire problems! Stick with stock AC Delco plugs. The GA does not do well with that split fire crap. To be honest those plugs are just gimmick plugs. There is no benefit of running a split fire because the spark will jump to whichever prong is closest to the electrode!

185000 on my alero (just sold) and it was still running great

o.O ?
Really? I used them in my 95' Intrepid. They worked great. Well, either way I'm sticking with a Bosch Platinum plug.
Bosch > AC Delco.

Yes really, you can search around if you dont believe me.
Here is a post from rick:
Iridium plugs are even more durable (the tips don't burn-out as soon) than platinums.
But they are overkill for the GA's ignition systems, which are designed to only need platinums.
Newer systems on some engines are at even higher voltages than the GA's, and it is for these systems that iridiums were designed, intended, and indeed are necessary.
The most important thing on spark plugs for the GA V6's and 4-cyls is:
* Platinum tips (single, on the center electrode, like 'RapidFires') or (Double, also on the ground electrode, like 'Professionals').
* Conventional single ground electrode. No dual-ground or 4-ground (like Bosch+4), no V-ground (like 'Split Fire'), no U-groove (Denso's "plain" plugs),nothing fancy at all.
As Desno's own page suggests, Iridiums are "the standard for today's high-tech engines".
You have a Pontiac. It is not high-tech.
Denso's 'double-platinums' are cheaper and will work as well for you as ACDelco 'Professionals'.
Get new wires, too; they age as badly as plugs, and cause greater loss of spark.

Good luck,

So, stick with Delcos or Iridiums. I personally have NGK TR6's but that is because I am running boost so they are 1 heat range colder. Think what you want about delcos but lots of people have problems with strange plugs. All I can do is offer advice though so if you start miss firing you can know where to start looking.

There is a discussion on plugs here:

The Bosch plugs will work in alot of cars, EXCEPT a few of the newer GM engines such as the 3400. It seems that the engines are desinged with the use of the ACDelco plugs in mind.
