i don't mean to sound rude or anything but firebirds do have v8's. they have v6's also. they don't make the TA or FB anymore, a few dealers have some left over from 2002. i was looking for a T-top v8 6 speed. that would be so nice to have. my dealer here didn't have any left when i went to get me GA fixed recently.

the firebird has different models, standard i believe it comes with a v6, 3800. or you the formula, which comes with a 5.7 v8. that is what i want..... need.....

No offense to my GA..But I would take a TA or Firebird over the GA.

On that note I wouldn't purchase another V6 FBody.
Nothing like getting your butt handed to you in a Pony car by your average family sedans.
If your going to get a FBody atleast get a V8 under the hood.

A '93+ 'Firebrd' only comes with a V6.

If it has a V8 in it it's either a Formula, which looks like a V6 Firebird, or TransAm.

IMO, the best factory built Firebird to look for would be a '98+ Formula with a 1LE package.

If that were your only car to drive, you would be cursing yourself in our wonderful Northeast Ohio winters! :P

I'd love to have a V8 Mustang, Fbody, Corvette, etc. However, it would have to be a second car as there is no way in hell I would want to deal with a lake effect snowstorm in one of the above. Not only that, but I would have to worry about the other idiots on the road! :pissed2:

yup don, get the RWD car and go buy yourself a $1500 or less car for the off-time (rain, snow, storms)

I've owned 5 Fbodies and a GBody.
Out of those 6 cars half had positraction (sucks in the winter).
But I never had a problem either. Decent weight in the trunk and a nice set of tires (not Z rated performance tires either, nice narrow snows) teamed up with knowledge on how to actually drive a vehicle goes a long way.

I've owned a varity of winter beaters. A '79 LeBaron with a 318, a FWD Cutlass, a AWD Subaru, etc. The Subaru kicked butt, best winter beater EVER. But other than that I'd take a RWD over FWD anyday.

But I agree. You don't want some jerk sliding into you in the winter. Doesn't even have to be your fault to ruin a nice car.
This is why when it snows we take my car and not the GA.

just my two cents.

Ok from what i learned V8's eat gas so if you got the money do the 8 if not then just stick the the GA.

It will depend on your situation.
I personally need a 4 door car because I have to move stuff around in college myself.

not ture, all depends on the engine, driving conditions etc.....

My car gets about 20mpg around town and should be getting 25-28 on the highway.

I agree with Rick, driving conditions, how well the car is maintained, and how heavy your right foot is becomes a huge factor.
Check out the EPA milage rating on the window sticker of a LS1 FBody with it topping out over 30mpg and averaging a mpg about the same as our Grand Ams.

yea and take a look at the vette you would think a v8 pusing over 400 HP would drink more than 28mpg on the highway

nah.. cause once your up to speed it doesn't take much gas to maintain it.

still the 400+ hp Z06 gets one mile less than a new GA V6 does in town proof right there v8s dont take as much gas as thought shit a vette gets better mileage than my car!

John, we seem to share many of the same views :D it'll be cool to meet you at the club meet in Aug. :)

I think the thing about V8's getting bad millage is taken from the 70's....durring the gas crisis and when car really got bad millage....then again, my fathers '74 Grand Prix with the 400 4bbl (his only car he ever bought new, still has it too) would get about 16-18mpg around town, not bad at all.

The Olds 307 in my mothers Brougham has been getting 10-12mpg latly, it's horrible (should be around 18) we had gotton the carb rebuilt, but something went wrong, the engine is extremly hard to start on cold starts, dosn't seem to have as much power (heh....power, that and the 307 should never be in the same sentance) and the millage sucks (Has a Rochester QuadraJet)

But, especally newer engines with fuel injection, these V8's are getting better and better millage, with emmisons equal that to a 6, or some 4bangers

Not only that, but, it is just cool to have a V8, to say you have a V8, extra low end tourqe (from a pushrod) that wonderful growl (love that, even though the stock exhaust system on my car is designed to keep the engine quite, when I race it, and let off the gas, as it throttles back it sounds really nice..... I can just image some nice FlowMasters on it)

Here is another example where a bigger engine is better.... sure the smaller engine may get better millage, but it takes alot more from it to do normal things.... friend in my school recently got a '92 Civic with the 4banger (1.6L I think) he dosn't know much about engines, but we were tlaking today, so I said Dave, when your pulling out somewhere, do you really have to lay into it to pull out and get going, and he said, well yeah, usally, but once I get going it's fine.

So I think ok, you have to run that little 4banger real hard (in a light car) to get up to speed, but in a car like mine, you hardly touch the gas and it wants to go, lay into it and it'll roast the tires....

he gets about 30mpg around town I get 20mpg

So does that extra 10mpg really justify less then good performance, hard time keeping up with traffic and then repaires later down the line on the smaller engine due to always beating on it just to keep up with traffic?

Not only that, but compare the 2 cars, '92 Civic, very basic with options, small (only had 2 speakers stock, he had to add rear speakers) among many others, vs. a '93 DeVille, big, roomy, huge trunk, really nice comfy leather seats, all power options, nice big, powerful V8, stock 6-speaker sound system that sounds real nice. etc..... the part I don't understand is, he bought his car, with 90k miles for $3900, and I got mine with 78k miles (at the time, now has almost 80k) for $4500......2 big factors are; Civics hold their retail value like crazy, and Cadillacs loose thier value like crazy....... but you do the math, IMO you get a hell of a lot more car for $600

But he wanted a car that gets great millage, and he has it, he is also happy with it, so that's good......that's the great thing about our world, many choices for many people

Wow that was long.
