Can a carburated engine be dynoed? I know this is probably an elementary question, but I don't know, lolol. I'm fixing to get my Civic's engine placed in and I want to get a base dyno on the engine. Thanks. Later, QD.

Yes.

Certainly... dynamometers have been around before fuel injection.

The Dyno either connects to the flywheel like a transmission (engine dyno) or to big drums that are turned by the wheels (chassis dyno). Either way, it could care less how the fuel and air are getting into your engine.

I don't see why it wouldn't work.

You couldn't get it dyno-tuned (in a modern sense, such as using MPTuners) but still dynoed. (to my knowledge)

I don't need it tuned. Just base HP number. Later, QD.

correction...if its using the wheels, they still need a feed to get the RPM, which is usually done with a spark plug wire. in the rare case of that not working, they can actually take a reading off the crank pulley or off the drive wheel itself (i saw this and it looked very strange).

either way, yes you can have it done.

You can change carburator jets , and distributor advance and initial timing , bolt ons etc. , it's just more labour intensive ..... ;)

Yes, that is true. I'd imagine that some shops wouldn't be as well equipped to do this, however.
