Nice! :) I drove an '05 (I think) Vibe this summer when I worked at a Ford dealer. They had the Vibe in on trade. It was black and AWD IIRC. Very nice. Had plenty of get up and go...at least more than I expected it to.
And yeah they're reliable, they have Toyota guts.

Meh. I'm not big on them, mainly because it's really a Toyota. In Japan, they sell a car that looks EXACTLY like a Vibe, but it's called a Toyota Voltz:

What's wrong with it being a Toyota? Toyota and GM have built cars together for many years. Ever hear of a Toyota Cavalier?

I can't find any pictures of it. But Toyota also released a TRD Cavalier. It was basically a Z24 Cavalier with different side skirts and front bumper. The front bumper also uses Supra corner lights. They also had different style tail lights.
These:http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z6/deggyfresh/778964_62.jpg
My buddy has a replica TRD Cavalier. Its a 2001 with a 95-99 front end conversion (because thats the year the TRD's were made) and has the side skirts and front bumper. Also has an 2.2L Eco-tech swap and runs a 150 wet shot.

?! But I never said that it being a Toyota was a bad thing. I personally just don't like the idea of a Toyota in deguise as a Pontiac, but that's just my preferance. But a Toyota Cavalier? I actually had no idea GM's relationship w/ Toyota was like that.

The Toyota badged Cavalier was available from 95-99 and then 00-02 with slight different styling between the years. The TRUE TRD (Toyota Racing Development) Cavalier was only available between 95-99 I believe.

Yup, the relationship goes back a long ways. :)
As for more Vibes, I'm not sure if that's true, but GM prices the Vibe a lot more competitively than Toyota does the Matrix. Couple that with better finance and lease rates, and you end up with considerably lower payments on what is essentially the same car. To us it was a no-brainer. A comparably-equipped Matrix would have cost us over $100 more a month to purchase.

After long last, picked it up tonight :)
Took them longer than they thought to install the 'things' we wanted so we had to wait a week but I wanted them to take their time so it would be perfect and the result is wonderful ... looking back, I am not sure that I even told what I was having done so here goes ... basically, the car is a 'base unit', well, not as base as a base Matrix because base Vibes comes with a good amount of stuff except mainly for power windows and door locks which you have to buy a $2000 package and in a standard transmission, they are harder to find ... anyway, we had them install power windows in all four doors, power door locks in all four doors plus the hatch, power rear glass 'pop' (all with keyless entry), manual master lock switch in the inside, 'factory' cruise control and of course an alarm ... also ordered Vibe specific front and rear rubber floor mats, window visors, bug deflector (on back order), rear entry guard (not installed yet) and cargo carpet :) ... and then finally, 'picked up' a cargo privacy cover.
To say the very least, Paula is thrilled and I think she even likes it even a little better than the Honda  ... and she LOVED her Honda!!!!
Here are some pictures taken at the dealership just before driving it home in the snow :( ... finally, sorry for the crappy cell phone quality!!

I haven't seen an '09 Vibe in person yet, but I did have the displeasure of checking out an '09 Matrix yesterday. I'm not impressed. The front and rear ends look bulbous, yet there seems to be considerably less cargo space. And the rear quarter window is so tiny, the c-pillar huge. Don't even get me started on the horrendous dash. :( And with the new engine and excess body weight the gas mileage has taken a tumble for the worse.
Why'd they have to ruin a good thing?

How is road noise with yours? I know someone who test drove one and said that road noise was the reason they didn't buy it (that and the interior being too "bland" for them).

MacPhee Pontiac? I didn't think you'd ever buy from them again.
Well, that is right but it is the car Paula wanted and since it was their service department who screwed me over and not the sales side of things, we thought we would try it ... that and it was one of the very few left around that we could find  ... time will tell if we made another bad choice but for the record, the guy that I had trouble with, is no longer there :)

The road noise is not bad but you have to remember, you are buying an economical car so it will not have the same amount of sound deadening material, etc as other models ... in regards to the dash, I suppose the same answer would apply as you get when you pay for ... personally, I think the Vibe is a very well options and high quality car for only $20K :)

Simple. The radio trim pulls off. Only issue there is there is a steel cable that runs to the recirculate button to 'pop' the button back out when you change the selector to defrost. That cable has to be undone, and the wiring to the buttons unplugged, etc. Once the trim is off, there are just 2 bolts holding the stereo in, IIRC. This thread on Genvibe should help with the Aux2Car wiring. http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=21818 :)

I seen that thread and didn't finish reading it earlier ... I didn't know it was that easy removing the trim though so thanks :)
sunrunner_pei
02-24-2008, 07:27 PM
The electrical wiring is a little on the short side, and the cable is a bit tricky to release. Other than that it's a cake walk. :)
99GrandAMSE
02-25-2008, 04:47 PM
... and am searching for the right connector cable now so depending on how much that is, is to how soon I start this ... the place that did all the work for me told me that they would install it for me for 'free' if they end up being able to get the original PAC cable (which they think they can but they have to check) ... anyway, going to drill a little hole 'some place' to install a fixed 1/8" jack so I can just plug in whatever we want to input :) ... the combination of the built in AC converter and now this will make using the laptop very easy with a minimal of cords running around :)
