View Full Version : Paint Cleansers and Deswirlers

CARS GONE WILD

i've heard that a paint cleanser is necessary before a sealant or wax application. Also, I've heard a good deswirler won't remove swirls, but hide them pretty decently. Can anyone point me to some good brands? And by deswirlers i mean the ones that you apply and rub in by hand. (As I don't have a PC right now).

TIA

For working by hand I would suggest 1Z products. By hand, yes, products that remove swirls probably won't work so good, unless you have amazing arm strength/agility heh. A paint cleaner is not necessary all the time.

You could use clay then a 50/50 IPA wipedown to clean the surface. I think the main point to be worried about is that the wax or whatever you are using bonds to the surface correctly (need of a clean surface), hence why you've probably heard to use a paint cleanser beforehand.

Coupe or someone else correct me if I am wrong.

I use the Megs' Paint Cleaner after I have fully clayed the car, followed by the Megs' Mirror Glaze Swirl Remover and this is using a Random Orbiter Buffer.

You should just skip the swirl remover (what swirl remover?).
Just clay
Paint cleaner (cleaner wax is good to use also after a claying)
Then use a pure wax like their #26 carnuaba wax or any wax or sealant that you like, one without cleaners though.

That is the swirl remover I use. It's part of the Meguiar's Professional line. I love it :)

What orbital are you using?

#9 is sepcificaly meant for rotary use. It can be used effectively by an orbital like the porter cable 7424 or the UDM, anything short of those and it wont work.
