Looking at other cars to replace the grand am and I scored a really really good deal on a 1999 Ford Escort ZX2 but I've been reading horror stories about the Mazda G5M manual transmissions in them.

Aside from constantly rebuilding the stupid thing, what options does a person have for this thing? Is there a better, stronger transmission that would bolt in the same, or is there something a person could do to make it stronger?

These things fail constantly. 2000 miles on a brand new car. 30K, 60K, I've read it all.

The car has 120,000 miles on it at the dealership right now. G5M 5-speed.

how many miles is on your GA? replacing a car with another car that has 120k and a ford at that? You can probably get a cavy z24 with manual in that price range and at least its reliable

Yeah, at least the Cavy would have a Getrag in it.

Notice my sig, and the thingy under my name. The GA is toast.

Cavy wouldn't be bad I've been looking for Z24 but there aren't many around. If there are, they have too many miles.

What is your budget level? You may be able to snag a Base 2005 Balt for a decent price. The Delta body vehicles drive quite well. The electrically actuated power steering makes the car feel like its on rails.
