I just recently bought a newer ga, and although it runs like a beauty, the engine compartment is spattered with oil and grease from a previous hg blowing out. My question, is how or what can I use to clean it up and make it look nice? It's all over the fuel rail, and outside of the timing housing, and all over the tops of the cams, etc. Is there a spray or something I can use and a scrub brush to clean it up?

I have found that a steam cleaner works best cleaning under the hood. My previous choice... CD2 engine detailer kit... 2 spray cans - a degreaser and a detailing spray.

Simple Green is also another favorite that people use under the hood.

Does it get all that thick gunky grease and stuff off? I'm not looking for showroom quality, but I am looking for tidy at least. Heard simple green has harmful chemicals that eat rubber, hoses, and electrical connections.

My car had a the motor replaced because of a blown HG before I bought it and the engine bay was completly covered in thick gunky grease and stuff because of the old motor and I have tried everything that Matt has suggested and the only thing that got any of it off was a hand steam cleaner but I still have yet to get it very clean

Yes, but the thicker stuff will require some elbow grease. You'll want to use a nice hard brush attachment on the steam cleaner, and I would also keep some shop rags handy to wipe the thick crud off in between passes with the steamer.

Simple green is the best stuff to use on the engine in getting it back to clean. the guy that had my car before my used it and thats why my engine looks brand new. just make sure you dont get it on the paint cuz it will eat it away

Scrape and wipe off the heavy stuff before you spray cleaners on it. A couple of minutes with some paper towels will reduce the time it takes for the cleaners to soak in.
