Through many run-arounds, it seems the wiring harness to my wheel speed sensor is.. well, chewed. :roll2: Mr. Tire, of course, gave me a way to go just to tell me that they don't know where it connects up in the engine and to call the dealer. (BUT! please come back and have them put new rotors on my car!) Well, the dealer wants $80 ($150 w/ labor) for a part that I saw for 35 online. Is it complicated to DIY? :???:

How chewed is chewed? If you have the plastic connectors, you would just need a couple of wires, butt splices, RTV and a roll of tape to replace the damaged wire.

I'm sure someone that lives in a warmer climate could trace out where the wires go and perhaps post a picture.

It depends whats chewed, if the connectors are still in good shape and intact and its just a single chewed up wire, I don't see the need to replace the whole harness.. unless the harness is cheap.

If it was me I would just cut out the bad part run a new piece of wire, crimping AND soldering it in place, then cover it with some heat shrink tubing (actually you should put the heat shrink on before you connect the wire... but I am sure you get the jist of it.)

To answer your question: its not hard if you have the right tools (soldering iron, wire strippers, wire cutters, wire crimper's, heat shrink, and 16 or 18 gauge wire)

If your handy the repair will work flawlessly and withstand the elements thrown at it from the wheel well.

hope this helps!

I couldn't really see inside the harness itself to see the wires. The car was up on the lift and they wanted to tell me more about the rotor needing replaced. Thats kinda why I was hoping I could just disconnect it from somewhere and check it out. I'm just not sure where else it connects.

Splicing shouldn't be too difficult, though. Thanks to you both for the list of tools and what I'd need to do :)
