View Full Version : howling/humming from the front end?
99% chance its the wheel bearing right? As I increase speed it gets louder(almost sounds like the radiator fan). I just replaced the drivers side one 20k miles ago, and it sounds like its coming more from that side than the passenger side. :roll2:
Last time though it was making a grinding noise and made my whole car shake. :???:

I know right know mine is going out. It has thrown on hte dummy light but i know it has been going out. No shaking though. So more than likely yeah its the wheel bearing.

Does it get worse when turning in one direction or the other?

One of the tests for a bad wheel bearing is to see if the noise changes when turing. It doesn't have to be a large turn. A slight swerve within your lane should do it. Just keep the speed low (30 -40 mph) and no other cars around so a good citizen doesn't report you as a drunk driver.
When turning, the outside wheel gets more weight on it and if it has a bad bearing, it will make more noise.
We got 8" of snow today so I really didn't go over 20mph...but I'll check tomorrow when the roads are clear...thanks!
