does ne one exactly how much hp is at the wheels on our cars? i know how much is claimed at the crank. and what mods would i have to do to get 200 whp? i know headers for one, but how much would it be with larger tb and ported intake manifolds?

You'll need more than that to get 200whp. And those mods will only give about 10 peak hp - the benefits of those pieces are seen better on a dyno sheet, where the overall effect can be viewed. The fatter power curve is the goal, not the peak output.

Realistically, you'll need a super- or turbocharger kit to reach 200whp, which is going to be about 240-250 crank horsepower.

The best way to find out how much whp your car has is to take it to a chassis dyno, such as a Dynopack or Dynojet - there should be a shop somewhere near you with one. It should be somewhere in the range of 140-144 whp. A 3100 run recently pulled 125, which is about a 19.4% loss from crank to wheel.

Jason is so right. To get 200 whp you need either a turbo or a super.. As for possible gains... well headers can do a lot for a car.. basically if you dont want to get in supers/turbo's i would suggest these

1) a CAI for starters (5-8 whp)
2) New headers (10 - 12 whp but this can have a huge range also )
3) P&P UIM and LIM ( not to sure about this.. perhaps 5 whp? not sure )
4) a high flow cat-converter (2-3 whp)
5) a cat-back system exhaust ( 8-12 whp.. but this means having yoru piping redone.. perhaps mandrel bent)
6) an ECU mod.. something like an ASE speed chip or the new one from.. DHC? i think thats the one ( 7-10 whp )

one thing to remember.. all these upgrades are whp upgrades from stock.. this DOESNT mean you can just add up the numbers and go from there but combined all this could run quite a bit.. the headers and cat back exhaust will run you the most.. hopefully this helps

to get to 200 whp.........
headers
port & polished heads
ported intake manifold
bigger TB
2.5" exhaust back
reprogrammed computer
CAI
crank pulley

whats his face on GAGT got 192 whp with basically the same combo except he had: 2.25" exhaust back, WAI, and no pulley

The ASE chips website had a chart. it said Before 170 HP after 190 could that be possible from one chip?

well ccarr you must realise when they claim a 20 hp gain and somethign like 15 torque gain.. They are trying to make their product look good. In reality the ase chip will give 7-10 whp and about the same for torque.. One thing to note though is that you have to run premium ( 91 octane ) any computer mod 'cept for the jet speed module.. which requires 89 octane and doesnt give you as much gain

I have over 200 whp....way over 200:agree:

Who Matt? Sorry I don't follow GAGT.com much. I've seen a number of cars with those mods on the dyno and the absolute highest was in the neighborhood of 175 at the wheels... when I saw Monellos on the dyno (with just the SC/DHP/exhaust) he was pulling 205.

What needs to be remembered here is that unless otherwise stated, every aftermarker performance manufacturer's hp quotes for their upgrades are crankshaft numbers, and not representative of wheel horsepower. The ASE mod adds up to 20hp at the crank, not the wheels.

The makers that bother to test their products usually do so from an engine dyno, which doesn't take into account driveline drag, whereas a chassis dyno (or "rolling road") reads the hp from the wheels - hence "wheel horsepower".

Mike Hurley 192.8 whp

Last time i checked he didn't have that much. I think it was 167whp.

I would try changing the oil and tranny fluid to synthetic as well.

check his n-body site ;) he posted his results on GAGT after he got his headers put on like last winter and got it dynoed, since then he got it dyno tuned by DHP where he made slightly less #s but was still in the ~188 range or so. There is no way he is at 167 considering a 3400 dynos ~140 stock, maybe he had it dynoed before the headers and some other mods

you said your honda had "way over 200 hp" how much over
cause I have a 2liter mountain dew at home which is bigger then your engine:D

I was at DHP when he dynoed and it was in the mid 160s same with sorry-officer, i had the highest hp for NA and it was only 176. We all had the exact same mods...just had our heads done by different companies.

once i get my P&P UIM and TB ill dyno mine. i dont think il do headers, but i can tell you that the ASE chip made a HUGE diffrence in power. i might also get my exhaust pipes finished, since i have the 3" pipes at the cat, and the 3" pipes at the muffler.
