View Full Version : BLACK ICE SUCKS!!! (my poor baby)
I hit some black ice on the interstate 2 weeks ago and have been fighting with my insurance company and haven’t had time to post or take pictures. Everything is sorted out now and we should back to perfect in about 10 more days.
Estimated $ 4500.00 damage

Is there any body damage besides that one spot on the door? Would be pretty lucky if the damage was confined to the front and rear fascias only... at least in terms of long-term repair quality.

That's about it, and a little damage to the right front frame horn but nothing serious.
the price is high because I had them use all GM parts.

I agree, if you walk in there with reciepts and car show pics and upgrade pics they will realize that it is not just a plain jane everyday run of the mill driver.
Done that.

First off that sucks as everyone else said.
As for total, it don't matter what all you put on it, in it. ect.....
Market value is all they accept. Which is determined on the condition of the car.
Been there done that.

Yep. My Beretta easily had $1,000 worth of mods and repairs in it, but that didn't matter. When I bumped the rear bumper of a Malibu and scuffed the bumper paint up on the driver's side, the car was technically totalled. It was literally a six-inch scratch, but if I would've said anything to insurance they'd have totalled the car and taken it from me. :-/

no wonder the price is high. and no wonder you've been fighting the insurance company. they don't like using OE stuff when they can avoid it.
bad thing around here is that all the decent body shops have started 'laying with the insurance company'. they don't want to do anything to piss the insurance companies off. almost to the point of screwing you over if need be. and you don't get a check from the insurance anymore. it goes directly to the body shop (at the places i'm talking about).
sucks to hear about your car. when i get my grand am running again i've gotta put my trailblazer in the shop to get some body work done where a woman ran me off the road. and i dread it lol. i almost wish someone would lightly rearend me so my fight would be a little easier

... everyone seems to forget one thing, you pay for your insurance and it is up to THEM to make you happy and if you want the car fixed and they won't but would prefer to 'right it off', simply tell them to find you one in the same condition, with the same mileage identical to yours for the money they wish to pay you for it ... basically, don't be scared to argue with the insurance company as the final word is yours and there is nothing they hate worse than letting things progress  ... anyway, never let an insurance company tell you how things are going to be ... they're not God, they provide a service that you pay for so there is no reason why you would ever have to accept a cheque whereby you 'lose' money ... modifications are one thing but paying for the condition is quite another ... sorry for the rant but I hate dealing with insurance companies :(

In addition to what Kelly said, Please, Please use an independent shop. They work for you not the insurance company. That’s how I got the GM bumper covers and headlight replaced on my GA.
Also an independent shop can leverage the insurance company with storage bills and estimate work if they try to total your car if that’s not what you want (example 10days storage @ 100.00 a day plus 150.00 + for evaluation) the insurance company has to pay these charges if the car is totaled this will sometimes make the difference. Never get your car towed to the insurance company’s holding lot or to one of their approved shops.

That's good... it won't be a "bondomobile" afterwards.
Glad to hear you are fighting for real GM parts... too many people bend over for their insurance companies to rape them with whatever parts are the cheapest.

x999999...
I can't stress that enough about picking a shop of your choice. You can divide body shops into 2 categories:
1. Body shops that are in bed with the insurance companies... they take the "just give it to us and we'll make it better" approach, then slap on some crappy parts with quick paintwork to save the insurance companies money. (and get lots of business in return)
2. Body shops that are customer oriented. This is what you want... a shop willing to flight sleazy insurance adjusters trying to cut corners.
Pre-loss condition. You're entitled to it, but may have to fight for it.

wish i knew this 2 years ago when i had my accident, they used after market parts on my car, and now with the deer the dealer i took it to had an estimate of $2,000. when the insurance adjuster came he low balled the dealer estimate with $1,400 by using used parts or aftermarket parts. the dealer has to go by the insurance company. sorry to see what happened to the car, at least everyone was ok.
